Job Description Project Manager – Custom Home Building Location: Greater Milwaukee Area Company: J&J Custom Homes (a division of J&J Contractors I LLC) Compensation: Competitive; based on experience About the Role The Project Manager – Custom Home Building is responsible for leading and managing one-of-a-kind, ground-up custom residential homes from foundation through final walk-through. This role oversees every phase of the custom home construction process, coordinating complex schedules, high-end trade partners, inspections, and client communication. The Project Manager plays a critical leadership role in ensuring each custom home reflects J&J Custom Homes’ standards for craftsmanship, quality, and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities • Manage and oversee multiple custom, ground-up residential home builds concurrently, • Lead daily jobsite operations for high-detail, non-production custom homes, • Develop, maintain, and adjust custom build schedules tailored to unique designs and site conditions, • Coordinate and manage skilled trade partners, ensuring craftsmanship, sequencing, and accountability, • Ensure all work meets J&J Custom Homes’ quality, safety, and design standards, • Prepare and maintain construction schedules, sequencing plans, progress reports, and cost tracking, • Identify risks and implement recovery plans related to weather, site conditions, design changes, or material lead times, • Coordinate with architects, designers, engineers, and inspectors to ensure seamless execution, • Establish and maintain communication with city officials and inspectors; ensure all inspections are completed and passed, • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite that reflects a high-end custom build environment, • 3+ years of experience managing custom, ground-up residential home construction, • 3+ years of carpentry experience, preferably as a lead carpenter or foreman on custom homes, • Strong understanding of the custom home construction process, sequencing, and scheduling, • Experience managing complex details, custom designs, and high-end finishes, • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and schedules, • Strong leadership and communication skills with trades, designers, inspectors, and homeowners, • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple custom builds simultaneously, • Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software preferred, • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, • Physically able to perform essential jobsite duties, including lifting up to 75 lbs, • Valid driver’s license; must pass background and driving record checks, • Opportunity to build true custom homes, not production housing, • Competitive compensation based on experience, • Company-assigned work truck, • Health, dental, and vision insurance, • 401(k) with company match, • HSA and life insurance, • Paid time off, sick days, and paid holidaysCompany DescriptionSince 1983, our family-owned business has been transforming people’s homes and their lives.
