Job Description Project Director, FIRE - Spreading Multivocal Expressions of Faith Full-Time | 5-Year Grant-Funded Position Reports to: Senior Minister Supervises: FIRE Impact Producer, Social Media Manager, Film & Production Contractors, and other Contractors Salary: $95-125K About FIRE FIRE: Spreading Multivocal Expressions of Faith is Riverside Church’s five-year, $5 million Lilly Endowment initiative that seeks to reclaim the Christian narrative through four-dimensional, multimedia storytelling. In partnership with the Center for Faith & Justice and First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, FIRE amplifies diverse, vibrant expressions of Christian life through a docuseries, national Spark Labs, FIREstarter cohorts, and a global digital storytelling platform. FIRE is not simply a project—it is a movement to illuminate the liberating, pluriform, hope-filled stories of modern Christian faith. Position Overview The Project Director is the organizer and executor of the FIRE initiative, transforming a bold, multi-year vision into a dynamic, operational reality. This leader provides organizational and administrative oversight for a grant-funded effort at the intersection of faith, media, and storytelling—bridging organizational mission with national outreach and community impact. Overseeing all aspects of the initiative, the Director leads team building, cross-coastal collaboration, production workflows, evaluation, and partnerships, ensuring FIRE remains rooted in justice-centered, multivocal Christian storytelling and emerges as a national model for digital faith formation. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Leadership • Lead the FIRE vision using actionable annual plans, timelines, and work streams for the long-term goals of a large-scale, media/storytelling, grant-funded project., • Ensure all components operate as a cohesive storytelling ecosystem., • Maintain narrative integrity across all creative content. 2. Team Supervision • Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise the interdisciplinary FIRE team fostering an inclusive and supportive team culture. Team to include:, • Impact Producer, • Social Media Manager, • Film & media contractors, • Event support, • Artistic Consultants, • Storytelling Members, • Provide clear expectations, feedback, and development pathways., • Manage working relationships with consultants (producers, festival strategists, digital specialists). 3. Reporting, Evaluation & Grant Compliance • Oversee comprehensive qualitative and quantitative evaluation frameworks to assess program outcomes, impact, engagement, and reach., • Ensure all grant deliverables, evaluation metrics, and reporting deadlines are met in alignment with Lilly Endowment guidelines and applicable federal and state regulations., • Manage preparation of quarterly and annual narrative and financial reports for funders, boards, and key stakeholders, in collaboration with Riverside’s finance office., • Maintain fiscal accountability for the five-year, $5 million grant budget, ensuring accurate tracking, documentation, and compliance., • Produce impact reports, case studies, and program learnings to support accountability, transparency, and long-term sustainability. 4. Stakeholder and Community Engagement (Bi-Coastal & National) • Serve as a key representative of the project, building strategic partnerships with media experts, nonprofit peers, faith leaders and community leaders., • Serve as primary liaison with partners at the Center for Faith & Justice and First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley., • Oversee relationships with festival partners, universities, churches, media consultants, influencers, and creative collaborators thus ensuring the implementation of a dynamic outreach and distribution launch and plan for the project at its completion. 5. Story Pipeline, Content Strategy & Distribution • Oversee creation of a multigenerational, multiplatform content ecosystem: Branding, GLOW clips, shorts, Embers talks, docuseries episodes, audio content, and reflections., • Coordinate the content pipeline from Spark Labs → FIREstarters → Docuseries → FIRE Digital., • Guide distribution strategy across festivals, churches, academic institutions, and digital platforms. 6. Project Execution • Spark Labs: Implement program flow, support recruiting of speakers, plan recording workflow, logistics, and post-event content capture alongside media contractors., • FIREstarter Cohorts: Support cohort coordination and collection of content creation from participants., • Docuseries: Supporting/maintaining filming timeline, participant selection, production team workflow, and alignment with FIRE themes., • FIRE Digital: Collaborate on leading platform development, content pipeline, digital strategy, and accessibility across generational audiences. 7. Culture-Building & Sensitivity • Create a safe, grounded, anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming environment for storytellers and team members. Required • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Public Administration, Public Policy, etc.) or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience., • 4–6+ years of progressively responsible experience in large-scale, multi-year creative, media, or justice focused project management or community organizing, with at least 18 months in a supervisory capacity., • Familiarity with film/media production processes and grantmaking regulations (e.g., IRS, OFAC)., • A deep commitment to social justice principles including racial and gender equity and trust-based philanthropy., • Excellent communication skills across platforms (digital, interpersonal, public speaking)., • Ability to collaborate across organizations, identities, and geographies., • Experience in documentary or media production environments., • Openness to working in multiracial, intergenerational Christian communities., • Familiarity with creative convenings, festivals, or cohort-based formation programs., • Knowledge of digital storytelling and platform management (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, podcasting).
