As an Industrial Controls Electrician (Journeyperson), you’ll be the expert others call when complex control systems need to be installed, tuned, diagnosed, or restored to peak performance. A Day in the Life You start your shift by reviewing overnight logs and prioritizing preventive tasks. A drive shows an alarm — you trace it through the wiring schematic, isolate a faulty sensor, and return the line to service with minimal downtime. Later, you partner with maintenance and production to plan a corrective repair, then join a continuous-improvement huddle to share lessons learned. Safety is never an afterthought — you follow OSHA and GM procedures in every step. What You'll Do • Lay out, install, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and circuits, • Diagnose and resolve control-system and equipment faults quickly to protect throughput, • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance across plant assets, • Interpret and work from electrical drawings and wiring schematics, • Contribute to cross-functional teamwork and continuous improvement, • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to technical challenges, • Work safely at all times, adhering to OSHA and GM standards Qualifications, • Six (6) or more years as an Electrician OR a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in the Electrical trade, • At least 18 years old, • Willing to support day, afternoon, or night shifts; overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed — sometimes with short notice, • Proficiency in: Electrical Troubleshooting Skills; Electrical Installation; Electrical Troubleshooting; Electrical Repair; Electrical / Electronic Systems; Industrial Electrical Experience; Industrial Electrical Systems Compensation and Status This position may be filled as a Journeyperson In Training (JIT) or a Journeyperson. JIT compensation ranges from $37.77–$44.06; the Journeyperson rate is $44.96. Certificates/credentials and interview results determine your status and pay. Physical Work • Respond rapidly to safety instructions, alarms, and signals, • Stand for extended periods; occasionally sit, • Wear PPE comfortably and navigate a busy plant environment, • Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach as tasks require, • Lift or carry up to 50 lbs. depending on department, • Operate mobile equipment when necessary Where You'll Work This role is categorized as onsite — you’ll report to a GM facility on a full-time basis.
