Job DescriptionDescription: Position Summary The Machinist – Turning Specialist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC and manual lathes to produce high-precision aerospace components. This role supports flight-critical manufacturing by ensuring all machined parts meet strict FAA, AS9100, and customer-specific requirements. The machinist maintains compliance, accuracy, and traceability throughout all turning operations while contributing to a safe, efficient, and high-quality aerospace production environment. Key Responsibilities • Edit programs, set up, and operate complex CNC machines, including multi-tasking turning centers and mill-turns (Mazak, Okuma, WFL)., • Work with ultra-precision tolerances (±.0005” or tighter) on complex aerospace components., • Interpret aerospace technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions with high accuracy., • Select appropriate tooling, inserts, cutting parameters, and fixturing for turning operations., • Perform offsets, tool changes, and adjustments to maintain tight tolerance requirements., • Inspect workpieces using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and CMM reports., • Document all production activities and maintain traceability per AS9100 requirements., • Identify machining issues and collaborate with engineering and quality to resolve dimensional or process discrepancies., • Maintain lathes through scheduled cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance., • Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workstation aligned with 5S practices. Qualifications Education & Experience: • High school diploma or GED required; trade/vocational machining training preferred., • Minimum 2–4 years of experience operating manual and/or CNC turning; aerospace experience strongly preferred., • Experience machining aerospace materials and working in an AS9100/FAA-compliant environment is strongly preferred. Skills & Competencies: • Strong knowledge of turning operations, insert selection, speeds/feeds, chip control, and machining strategies., • Ability to interpret technical drawings, complex GD&T requirements, and aerospace specifications., • Skilled in using precision measuring equipment for tight-tolerance inspection., • High attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
