Job Description Job Title: 4/5-Axis CNC Machinist – Night Shift Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating advanced 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce complex aerospace and flight hardware components on the night shift. You will interpret detailed blueprints, machine parts to tight tolerances, and perform precision inspections in a high-mix, low-volume aerospace manufacturing environment. The position requires strong independent work skills, consistent adherence to quality and productivity standards, and the ability to troubleshoot machining operations effectively. Responsibilities • Set up and operate 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce complex aerospace and flight hardware components., • Interpret and work from detailed blueprints and engineering drawings to machine parts accurately to specification., • Machine aerospace parts to tight tolerances, including ± 0.001" (one thousandth of an inch), ensuring dimensional accuracy and repeatability., • Perform CNC setups, including selecting and installing tooling, setting work offsets, and verifying correct machine parameters., • Use CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas to load, adjust, and run CNC programs for various aerospace components., • Troubleshoot machining operations by identifying and correcting issues related to tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds, and program execution., • Conduct precision inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gages, and other measuring tools to verify part dimensions and quality., • Apply GD&T principles during setup and inspection to ensure parts meet geometric and dimensional requirements., • Work with aluminum and other aerospace materials, selecting appropriate tooling and machining strategies to achieve required finishes and tolerances., • Collaborate with programming or engineering teams to review CNC programs and provide feedback on manufacturability and process improvements., • Maintain a high level of quality and productivity while working independently in a high-mix, low-volume aerospace job shop environment., • Document and report any nonconformances or deviations, and assist in implementing corrective actions as needed., • Follow established shop procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards throughout all machining and inspection activities., • Support continuous improvement by suggesting process enhancements, tooling optimizations, and setup efficiencies., • Ensure machines, tools, and work areas remain clean, organized, and in proper working condition during the night shift. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a 4- or 5-axis CNC mill machinist in an aerospace manufacturing environment., • Strong CNC setup skills, including tooling selection, workholding, and machine offset setup., • Hands-on experience machining aerospace parts to tight tolerances of ± 0.001" (one thousandth of an inch)., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings for complex components., • Proficiency with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas., • Experience working with CNC programs and making on-machine adjustments as needed., • Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and height gages, for dimensional inspection., • Working knowledge of GD&T and its application in machining and inspection., • Experience in aerospace machining, including familiarity with flight hardware and structural components., • Experience performing precision inspection of machined parts to ensure compliance with specifications., • Ability to work independently on night shift while maintaining quality and productivity standards., • Comfort working in a high-mix, low-volume job shop environment with complex, varied parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience using or collaborating with CAM software for complex 4- and 5-axis CNC milling operations., • Prior experience machining aluminum aerospace components and understanding of appropriate cutting parameters., • Experience in precision CNC machining for aircraft, defense, or space-related programs., • Familiarity with the fabrication and assembly of high-tolerance flight hardware and structural components., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality aerospace parts. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Fe Springs, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $50.00/hr.
