Job DescriptionJob Title: Principal / Senior Principal Electrical Controls Engineer Job Description The Principal / Senior Principal Electrical Controls Engineer will lead the design, integration, and commissioning of advanced control systems for high-profile projects in the Amusement, Entertainment, and Aerospace industries at a growing Orlando, FL metro area office. This role serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert, providing strategic direction on complex controls projects while mentoring a team of engineers and collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders. The position combines hands-on technical work with project leadership, client-facing responsibilities, and the opportunity to shape best practices, standards, and processes for a rapidly expanding operation. Responsibilities • Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for the design, integration, and commissioning of complex control systems across high-value projects., • Lead and mentor a team of controls engineers, promoting technical excellence, professional development, and a collaborative team culture., • Collaborate closely with project managers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and clients to ensure seamless controls integration and system performance that meets or exceeds project requirements., • Serve as the primary controls engineering point of contact for key clients, driving technical discussions, leading design reviews, and supporting troubleshooting throughout all project phases., • Establish, document, and enforce best practices, standards, and processes for control system architecture, programming, testing, and commissioning., • Manage risk identification and mitigation strategies specific to the controls engineering scope to ensure project safety, reliability, and on-time delivery., • Oversee prototype development, system validation, and field commissioning activities to ensure the quality, robustness, and reliability of delivered control solutions., • Interpret electrical schematics and develop comprehensive design documentation, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and applicable codes., • Stay current with emerging controls technologies, software platforms, and industry trends, and proactively integrate innovations that enhance system capabilities and project efficiency., • Support business development efforts by contributing technical insights for proposals, presentations, and client communications related to control systems., • Drive innovation and process improvement initiatives within the controls engineering function, championing the adoption of new tools, methods, and technologies., • Collaborate with company leadership to align controls engineering strategies with overall business objectives and growth plans., • Travel as needed, up to approximately 15%, to corporate offices and client sites for meetings, reviews, commissioning, and on-site support.Essential Skills, • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution., • At least 10 years of progressive experience in controls engineering, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing controls teams or projects., • Proven track record leading the design, integration, and commissioning of complex control systems involving PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and motor controllers., • Strong ability to independently interpret electrical schematics and convert them into robust control system designs and documentation., • Extensive technical expertise in control system architecture and functional safety, including familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards such as NEC, NFPA, and IEC., • Demonstrated success in project leadership, including resource management, risk mitigation, and client relationship management., • Ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems using ingenuity, creativity, and sound engineering judgment., • Experience in driving innovation and process improvement within a controls engineering environment., • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present technical concepts clearly to Senior leadership and client stakeholders., • Willingness to travel up to approximately 15%, primarily to corporate offices and client sites., • Hands-on experience with controls engineering, automation, and troubleshooting of complex automated systems., • Experience with PLC programming and control system design using platforms such as Allen-Bradley.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field., • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration, preferably in Florida or other relevant states., • 15 or more years of experience working in the Amusement, Entertainment, or related industrial automation industries., • Advanced proficiency with Allen-Bradley controls hardware and software., • Experience with other major PLC platforms such as Siemens., • Extensive experience using electrical drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar tools., • Demonstrated ability to support business development activities by contributing technical content to proposals and presentations., • Proven ability to stay abreast of emerging controls technologies and integrate them effectively into new and existing systems.Work Environment This role is based in a growing office in the Orlando, FL metro area, supporting a second location for an expanding engineering organization. The work environment combines office-based design and collaboration with occasional on-site work at corporate offices and client facilities, including amusement, entertainment, and aerospace sites. Engineers use modern controls engineering tools, including PLC programming environments, HMI development software, and electrical design platforms such as AutoCAD or EPLAN. The schedule typically follows standard business hours, with flexibility required during critical project phases, commissioning activities, or client visits. Travel of up to approximately 15% may be required for meetings, design reviews, testing, and field commissioning. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Orlando, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
