Job DescriptionJob Title: Structural Welder Job Description We are seeking skilled structural welders with experience in fitting, fabrication, and both ship and shop welding. This position is available for the 2nd shift only, starting at 3pm. Candidates must be local and able to pass a stick and flux core weld test. It is essential to adhere to all safety requirements, including firewatch protocols. Responsibilities • Weld together metal components of products as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions using electric arc-welding equipment., • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring the absence of loose scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matters., • Complete welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions., • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding., • Manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal., • Clean or degrease weld joints or workpieces using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths., • Repair broken or cracked parts and set up and operate welding equipment, selecting proper electrodes according to metals to be joined., • Perform grinding and joint preparation for NDT processes., • Engage in burning, washing, edge prepping using hand and automated equipment., • Conduct flux cored inner shield and dual shield welding along with oxy-acetylene torching, air-arc, weld-wire gas, stick, and pipe flange., • Construct or repair metal products by joining parts either manually using electric arc, MIG, TIG welding, or oxy-acetylene welding., • Understand Chemist and Competent Persons reports to determine if job sites, especially those involving combustible material, are safe for personnel and hot work., • Mark or tag material with proper job numbers, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required., • Wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes, and respirators when necessary., • Understand and act upon instructions, working independently to complete responsibilities.Essential Skills, • Ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW., • Knowledge of welding techniques including oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, and TIG, tools, and equipment., • Ability to comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates., • Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade., • Experience working in a shop environment is a must.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Technical training preferred., • General computer knowledge is preferred., • Ability to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces., • Must be a steady, reliable worker., • Ability to compare and follow simple instructions. Work Environment This position is for the 2nd shift, starting at 3pm. The work environment is a shop setting where adherence to safety protocols is mandatory. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes, and respirators when necessary. The role demands precision and dedication to quality. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NA, Virginia. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
