Job Description Position Title: Maintenance Technician (FMT-I) Reports to: Program Director About CBN: The Carter Burden Network (CBN) promotes the well-being of older adults through a continuum of services, advocacy, arts, and volunteer programs, primarily for individuals aged 60 and older living in New York City. Position Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Technician I plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the Carter Burden Lumcheon Club. This entry-level role ensures the center is compliant with Department of Health (DOH) and NYC Aging, formerly known as (DFTA) standards. Technicians are expected to work cooperatively, maintain a positive attitude, and uphold high standards of care for our facility and participants. Essential Responsibilities Working closely with the Director of the Program you will translate operational goals into effective day-to-day workflows. You’ll provide clinical oversight, administrative support, and direct service delivery to ensure the team meets performance standards and regulatory requirements. Your role includes: • Maintain daily cleanliness of restrooms,office spaces,kitchen,hallways, stairs,patio, front of the buildingand dining areas, • Clean/disinfect high-touch areas and surfaces throughout shift, • Sweep and mopall spaces mentioned abovedaily, • Conduct mandatory restroom sanitation routine2 times a day,mid day, andbeforeendo of shift, • Set up and break down tables and chairs as neededfor meal serving or events, • Assistwith dish bussing, kitchen cleanliness, and other food service support, • Replace basic fixtures such as light bulbs, • Ensure all floors and surfacesremaincontamination-free, • Report facility issues or safety concerns to supervisors promptly, • Maintain courteous, respectful interactions with older adults and staff, • Organize andmaintaininventory of Pantry, • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, • Minimum 6 months to 1 year of custodial or maintenance experience preferred, • Ability to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods, • Passion and sensitivity for CBN’s mission, • Respect for older adults and a team-oriented approach, • Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures, • Ability to safely use cleaning products and equipment, • Familiarity with DOH/DFTA sanitation guidelines (will train), • Effective communication in Englishrequired; Spanish preferred, • Punctuality & ReliabilityConsistently arrives on time andcompletesassigned tasks without constant supervision., • Team CollaborationWorks cooperatively with coworkers and supports a positive teamenvironment,especiallywhenthere isa shortageof staff., • Attention to DetailMaintainshigh standardsof cleanliness and notices when areas need extra care., • Respect forOlder AdultsInteracts with participants in a courteous, patient, and professional manner. The Maintenance Technician does not directly supervise any staff. Position Type, Work Schedule This full-time, non-exempt role at the 8arter Burden Luncheon Club. Set 8-hour shifts (short shift on Wednesday) will fall between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Friday through Tuesday, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break (approximately 32 hours weekly. You must remain fully accessible during scheduled hours via phone (3cx) and email, aligned with program service needs. Physical Requirements This position is based in a multi-level, commercial church building located in East Harlem and requires the physical ability to perform routine custodial and maintenance duties throughout a four-floor facility. The physical requirements listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Demands include but are not limited to: • Frequent walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs or ladders., • Ability to stand and move continuously for extended periods (up to 8 hours)., • Regular lifting andcarrying ofsupplies, furniture, and equipment (up to 50lbs)., • Manual dexterity and grip strengthsufficienttooperatebasic tools and custodial equipment such as mops, floor buffers, vacuums, and hand tools., • Ability to reach overhead and work in confined spaces or under sinks and counters., • Visual and auditory ability toidentifyhazards, hear alarms, and communicate effectively., • Indoor work with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions (e.g., for trash removal or snow/ice clearing). This role offers an hourly rate between $17.25- $18.95, the annualized base is $31,395 to $34,489 per year; this role is OT eligible, in full compliance with the NYC Pay Transparency Act, with final placement based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
