Job DescriptionJob Title: Bilingual Court Intake Social Worker Job Summary: The Courts Department is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bilingual Court Intake Social Worker to join our team. The social worker will play a crucial role in the initial assessment and referral process for individuals entering the court system, particularly those with mental health, substance abuse, or other behavioral health needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical assessment, excellent communication skills, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of those in the community. CASES is a New York City agency at the forefront of the intersection between behavioral health and the criminal justice system. Our mission is to increase public safety through innovative services that reduce crime and incarceration, improve behavioral health, promote recovery and rehabilitation, and create opportunities for success in the community. The CASES Court Services department services court mandates or endorsed programming at all points in the criminal legal process. CASES operates, alternative to detention (ATD) and alternative to incarceration (ATI) community-based programs that are facilitated by the NYS Office of Court Administration (OCA) judiciary. CASES interfaces with multiple stakeholders to support these ATD and ATI program options for thousands of defendants in multiple boroughs. Specifically, the arraignment team screens approximately 10,000 defendants a year for ATD and ATI programs, Supervised Release and Newstart. Additionally, the ATI Intake Assessment Team screens 500 people per year to divert people into 3 (three) CASES community-based programs: Reframing Opportunity Alternatives and Resilience (ROAR), Nathaniel Community Success (NCS), and Nathaniel Assertive Community Treatment (NACT). All Court Services teams are dedicated to the CASES mission and facilitating release and positive court outcomes. Kaplan House offers an extensive independent living skills program, including vocational preparation, and educational services that assist youth towards reaching independence. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Team Leader is a vital part of the Milieu Team. The Team Leader at Kapla House supervisors the Direct Support Professional. The Team Leader is the functional supervisor of the program and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility. The court responds creatively to low-level offending, seeking alternatives that are restorative to the community. In keeping with that goal, Midtown also operates upstream programming to divert adults and young people from prosecution. The Center for Justice Innovation operates Project Reset, New York City's pre-arraignment diversion program, city-wide. Operating in collaboration with the New York Police Department, District Attorney’s Offices, and the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, Project Reset seeks to create a proportionate response to low-level crime by avoiding the use of incarceration and the potential harms associated with the traditional criminal justice process. Job Description FUNCTIONAL FAMILY THERAPIST - PROGRAM DIRECTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Functional Family Therapy- Adult program is a therapeutic model that operates within its Clinical Services unit and is a strength-based, evidence-informed, culturally responsive intervention program that, at its core, aims to reduce community and interpersonal violence by engaging people in a change process that nurtures hope and strengthens relationships. Specific attention is paid to interfamilial and extra-familial factors, and how they present within and influence therapeutic processes. The Functional Family Therapy- Adult (FFT-A) Director will be accountable for providing day-to-day support, leadership, and general supervision to Therapists and Case Managers. The FFT Director is responsible for maintaining adherence to the Functional Family Therapy - Adult model. FFT-A works with youth between the ages of 22 to 27 who have been referred by the criminal legal system and community-based organizations. The Director will effectively lead, supervise, and support a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and linguistically appropriate community-based recidivism prevention program that focuses on providing counseling and clinical interventions to young adults and families. The Director will assist in the overall functioning of the program with the goal of reducing the number of young adults engaged in the criminal legal system. Specific duties and responsibilities include: • Daily oversight and compliance of the FFT-A program, • Manage clinical core competencies and delegate responsibilities involved in day-to-day FFT-A program operations to allow for efficient and streamlined programming, • Establish, practice, and encourage office norms i.e., use of calendars, checking email, etc., • Assign cases to Therapists and Case Managers, • Monitor, review, and approve all written work produced by FFT-A staff, maintaining compliance with contractual regulations, • Ensure that staff maintain records of all clients and family contacts, • Ensure that staff enter all progress notes and other case information in the web-based monitoring system, • Ensure all counseling sessions, coaching sessions, case notes, and documentation are completed on time and in compliance with the FFT-A model and funding source requirements, • Ensure confidentiality and HIPAA compliance of FFT-A clinical files and information sharing, • Schedule and ensure staff adhere to FFT-A and ART consultation requirements; Job Duties Include: • Calendar and follow-up on deadlines for discovery, Court events, etc., • Contact Courts (confirm hearings, obtain dockets, e-filing procedures, etc.) and adjusters/clients as needed, • Schedule conference calls/meetings and handle scheduling/calendaring for their assigned team, • Open and close client files, • Associate and download documents, emails, and court filings into iManage document system, • Review invoices for payments and submit expense reports, • Prepare pleadings, discovery (requests and answers), e-filings to be filed (drafting and exhibits), and general correspondence, • Assist attorneys in preparing for trials and hearings, including drafting witness lists and exhibit lists, • E-file legal documents in various courts (pleadings, motions, praecipes, etc.), • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a litigation legal assistant, • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, proofreading, time management, and organizational skills, • Solid understanding of civil litigation (state and federal calendar deadlines and rules), • Ability to occasionally work over 35 hours per week to meet client demands, • High proficiency in MS Suite, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and document management software
