Technician (CST) Location: New York, NY 10029 Job Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 5 × 7.5-Hour Shifts (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) Hours per Week: 37.5 Hours Guaranteed Hours: Dependent on facility requirements Job Summary The CVOR Tech / Operating Room Technician (CST) assists in surgical procedures by performing scrub and circulating duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and attending physician. This role requires strong knowledge of operating room technology, aseptic techniques, and cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform scrub duties following established guidelines, including maintaining aseptic technique, performing surgical scrub, gowning and gloving, setting up sterile instrument tables, assisting with patient draping, anticipating surgeon needs, maintaining accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts, handling specimens, assisting with dressings and drainage systems, transferring patients, and ensuring proper cleaning and reprocessing of instruments and equipment. Assist the Registered Professional Nurse with circulating duties by assembling supplies, providing special equipment, positioning patients safely, maintaining a sterile environment, controlling room traffic, documenting counts, handling specimens properly, assisting with patient transfer to recovery, and preparing the room for the next procedure. Assist with medication preparation on the sterile field only under direct RN supervision. Label all medications appropriately, announce medication details clearly, and retain medication vials until the patient leaves the room. Narcotics and controlled substances must only be dispensed by the Registered Professional Nurse. Support operational needs by assisting with patient transport, notifying leadership of changes in equipment or par levels, maintaining organized operating rooms and sterile storage areas, and assisting with updating preference cards. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English clearly. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform operating room duties. Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment. Education and Certification Requirements High School Diploma required. Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Training Program required. CST Certification required. Courses in operating room technology, biology, chemistry, or science preferred. Experience Requirements Minimum 2 years of Surgical Technician experience required. CVOR experience required.
