ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Oversees staff in the delivery of supplies and equipment throughout the hospitals, clinics, nursing or other designated areas. Responds to requests, complaints or questions concerning equipment or supplies. Monitors and assists with the processing and sterilization of instruments and trays for use throughout the hospital, and carries out contamination control measures. Provides materials which contribute to better technique of patient care and assists in decreasing the spread of contamination. Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Provides instructions and in-service education to employees in order to assure optimal sterile technique and aseptic handling of all sterile items. Processes patient rental equipment for cleaning between patients, monitors use and charges, and obtains equipment from outside services as required. Replenishes supplies and equipment. Monitors preventative maintenance programs for equipment; and maintains inventory of equipment to meet patient care requirements in compliance with safety guidelines. Adheres to OSHA guidelines regarding safe handling of Ethylene Oxide (ETO) and product sterilized by same.
