Job Description Job Title: Electrical Journeyman (Solar Carport Projects) Job Description The electrical journeyman leads the installation, wiring, and commissioning of solar carport systems at commercial sites. This role oversees all electrical activities in the field, ensuring work meets NEC standards, project specifications, and safety requirements while coordinating closely with site leadership and other trades. The position involves working at two commercial sites in Scottsdale over a 3–4 month period, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and crew productivity. Responsibilities • Lead the installation, termination, and testing of electrical wiring for photovoltaic (PV) systems, including conduit, wire pulls, disconnects, combiner boxes, and inverters., • Read and interpret electrical plans, one-line diagrams, and site drawings to execute work accurately and efficiently., • Plan, lay out, and install underground and overhead conduit runs associated with solar carport structures., • Complete AC and DC terminations, grounding, bonding, and equipment mounting in full compliance with electrical codes and project specifications., • Assist with inverter startup, system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities to ensure proper system performance., • Coordinate daily activities with site foremen, superintendents, and other trades to maintain project schedule, quality, and safety standards., • Enforce adherence to NEC, OSHA, and project-specific safety protocols on the job site., • Mentor and guide apprentices and less experienced electricians to support skill development and overall crew productivity., • Monitor work progress, identify issues in the field, and communicate solutions to site leadership., • 5+ years of electrical experience in a commercial or industrial setting., • Strong proficiency with conduit installation and conduit bending for both underground and overhead runs., • Hands-on experience with electrical construction, including wire pulls, terminations, and equipment installation., • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, one-line diagrams, and site drawings., • Thorough understanding of NEC requirements and ability to apply code in the field., • Knowledge of AC/DC terminations, grounding, bonding, and related electrical best practices., • Ability to work safely outdoors, at heights, and around heavy equipment., • Strong focus on safety, quality, and adherence to OSHA and project-specific safety protocols., • Capability to lead and mentor apprentices and support overall crew productivity., • Previous experience with solar PV installations is a plus but not required., • Experience working on commercial building projects and parking structure or carport installations is beneficial., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and support system commissioning., • Ability to manage time and tasks effectively in a fast-paced construction environment. Work Environment This role is based entirely in an outdoor construction environment at commercial buildings where solar is being installed on carport structures. Work takes place on active job sites, often around heavy equipment and other trades, and requires comfort working at heights and in varying weather conditions. The position involves hands-on field work, frequent movement, and use of standard electrical and construction tools and equipment. Appropriate workwear suitable for an outdoor construction site, including required personal protective equipment, is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Scottsdale, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
