Job Description Senior PLC Programmer / FIS Controls Engineer Senior PLC Programmer / Controls Engineer with extensive experience in automotive manufacturing, FIS controls support, and GVOSS standards. Responsible for designing, programming, testing, commissioning, debugging, and maintaining PLC control systems supporting automated production lines and launch activities. This role requires strong expertise in Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLCs, Siemens PLCs, industrial automation, and production controls, with a focus on system performance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and process optimization. This is a long-term, launch-phase controls support assignment at a Louisville manufacturing facility. The position is scheduled for day shift, approximately 5–6 days per week and 40+ hours per week, supporting programming, debug/startup, commissioning, testing/validation, production support, and documentation activities. Responsibilities: • Develop, program, modify, and maintain PLC control systems for automated manufacturing environments and high-volume production equipment., • Ensure automation projects comply with GVOSS standards, automotive OEM standards, and established controls engineering requirements., • Design, develop, and troubleshoot ladder logic, function block diagrams, sequencing logic, interlocks, and other PLC programming methodologies., • Perform advanced PLC troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis to identify controls issues, minimize production downtime, and improve equipment reliability., • Support equipment commissioning, debug/startup, production launch, and system validation activities., • Perform testing and validation of PLC programs, automated equipment, controls sequences, and production systems before and during launch., • Integrate, configure, and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA systems for equipment visualization, diagnostics, real-time monitoring, and operator control., • Collaborate with controls engineers, maintenance personnel, production teams, equipment integrators, and other technical stakeholders to optimize system performance., • Support robotics integration, automated equipment interfaces, and communication between PLC-controlled systems., • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks, including EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, and related industrial networking technologies., • Support automated assembly lines, safety PLCs, machine interlocks, and controls-related production systems., • Provide hands-on production support during launch and ongoing manufacturing operations., • Drive continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, downtime reduction, and process optimization initiatives., • Maintain accurate controls documentation, including PLC program revisions, software backups, program updates, technical specifications, and daily activity reports. Requirements Qualifications: • Proven experience as a Senior PLC Programmer, Controls Engineer, PLC Engineer, or similar controls-focused professional within an automotive manufacturing environment., • Strong working knowledge of GVOSS standards and automotive OEM controls requirements., • Advanced programming and troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLCs and/or Siemens PLCs., • Strong proficiency with PLC programming, including ladder logic, sequencing, interlocks, and automated machine control., • Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems, HMI development, and SCADA platforms., • Advanced skills in controls troubleshooting, PLC debugging, root cause analysis, and system optimization., • Experience supporting production launch, equipment startup, commissioning, and testing/validation activities., • Experience with robotics integration, automated assembly systems, and safety PLCs., • Working knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols, including EtherNet/IP and PROFIBUS., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot controls issues in active production environments while minimizing equipment downtime., • Knowledge of continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and process optimization methodologies., • Ability to maintain detailed technical documentation, controls program revisions, and project/production support records., • Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills within cross-functional engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing teams., • Ability to work a day shift, approximately 5–6 days per week, with an expected workload of 40+ hours per week for a long-term launch/support assignment.
