Job Description Lawyers for Children is seeking a dedicated social worker to join our Immigration Rights Project as a full-time Social Work Fellow. The Fellowship Social Worker will join the existing Immigration Rights Project at LFC, currently comprised of a Project Director, Project Attorney, two Project Social Work Co-Directors, and a Legal Fellow. Lawyers For Children social workers practice alongside our attorneys to advocate on behalf of children and youth in various judicial proceedings. Social workers at LFC regularly visit clients in the community, interview clients at LFC’s offices, and collaborate with attorneys on case strategy. Duties include compiling case notes, completing timely client/family interviews, investigation, case preparation/planning, and oral advocacy at case conferences and other forums. LFC’s social workers are an integral part of the provision of legal services to children and young adults in child protective, foster care, juvenile justice, custody, visitation, termination of parental rights, guardianship, immigration, and related proceedings. LFC social workers are essential to our interdisciplinary model of client representation and are key to our commitment to ensure that every client has a voice in the court proceedings that can determine their future. Social workers report to the Social Work Supervisors and Co-Directors. Qualifications: • LMSW required, • Spanish fluency required, • Demonstrated commitment to the rights of children and youth, • Experience working with immigrant youth and familiarity with Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is preferred, • Commitment to interdisciplinary practice of law using the social worker-attorney team model, • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and in crisis situationsWell-organized, motivated, creative and independent, yet also able to work in a team-oriented environment, • Commitment to providing culturally sensitive services Salary Range: $72,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year, based on date of license, experience, and qualifications. Hybrid Schedule: LFC’s legal and social work staff are expected to work from the office, in court, or in the community a minimum of two-days per week or more as needed to effectively fulfill their responsibilities. This position requires a flexible schedule, wherein the fellow is available to work from the office 2-5 days a week as required by their caseload, in order to attend in-person court appearances, meet with clients, etc. This includes the availability to work from the office unexpectedly and on short notice, when SIJS proceedings are assigned that require the fellow’s expedited in-office presence. However, it is anticipated that the position will allow for opportunities to work remotely on days when those constraints are not present.
