Upon the order of a qualified physician, the Radiology Technologist will utilize equipment which produces ionizing radiation to obtain radiographs for diagnostic purposes according to policies, procedures, and protocols of the KSC Radiology Department and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. Equipment includes but is not limited to fluoroscopic and/or digital radiographic and/or routine radiographic rooms used in combination with CR technology for image acquisition. Imaging services vary by location, therefore, rotation through the ambulatory surgery center to provide radiographic support via utilization of a radiographic C-arm or portable unit and the performance fluoroscopic exams may be required depending on assigned site. The Radiology Technologist will utilize the designated Radiology Information System (RIS) to complete clerical processes and the designated Patient Archiving System (PACS). General Role Description: The registered nurse provides nursing care to patients in an assigned clinical area and leadership on the unit, under the supervision of a Nurse Supervisor, or RN Coordinator. The Ultrasound Technologist will utilize the designated Radiology Information System (RIS) to complete clerical processes and the designated Patient Archiving System (PACS). Primary Responsibilities: • 30% Performs diagnostic sonography according to policies, procedures, and protocols of the KSC radiology and/or OB department. Understands and applies technical principles affecting optimal production of sonographic images, as well as anatomical orientations and anomalies affecting the final product. Understands age related communication needs of patients and can effectively convey instructions to patients to facilitate the performance of sonographic studies, • 15% Participates in Technical Quality Control measures, which include performance of routine equipment maintenance and reporting malfunctions or variances in equipment performance to the Medical Imaging Supervisor or his/her designee in the supervisor's absence. Maintains necessary supplies and documentation of cleaning logs as applicable., • 15% Uses RIS system correctly, according to Clinic and Department guidelines and properly documents, for the Interpreting physician review, atypical conditions, which could affect image quality and/or content. Understands PACS system and can identify problems with image transmission as they occur and notify Medical Imaging Supervisor or his/her designee when corrective actions are beyond the scope of the technologist., • 20% Conscious of ultrasound safety measures. Utilizes sterile technique when necessary. Complies with all KSC safety initiatives, • 15% Participates in formal and in-service training programs of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, department specific in services, and any applicable site-specific training. Maintains current applicable licenses and/or certifications and complies with continuing education requirements necessary to maintain same. May be assigned to other duties, technical or non-technical if training, experience, and credentials are deemed adequate by supervisor to perform those duties, • 5% Interacts effectively with patients and coworkers, including staff assigned to other locations. Primary Responsibilities: • Imaging: Performs all aspects of PET/CT, diagnostic CT exams according to policies, procedures and protocols of the KSC nuclear medicine and radiology department. The technologist prepares and positions patients for scanning and operates nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment. Understands and applies technical principles affecting optimal production of images affecting the final product. Understands age related communication needs of patients and is able to effectively convey instructions to patients, • Administration of Radioactive Materials: Provides direct patient care skills including but not limited to: the intravenous administration of radioactive materials to patients for diagnostic or therapeutic applications while thoroughly explaining the testing procedures before and during exam. Also performs and documents Waived testing, Respiratory Care and Medical emergency response. Demonstrates knowledge and skill needed to provide safe and effective radioisotope administration and IV skills (venipuncture), • Quality Control: Performs and documents PET CT and General Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation Quality Assurance of scintillation cameras, probes, well counters and survey meters according to state regulations. Performs CT equipment calibration and required QC testing and documentation. Maintains a clean environment to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting which includes but is not limited to: Hand washing, aseptic and sterile technique, • Safety: Abide by radiation safety protocols and maintains required documentation to comply with state and regulatory bodies. At Houston Methodist, the Clinical Resource Nurse position is a population-specific clinician, patient/client advocate responsible for assisting patients/families navigate the complex health care system in an organized, effective and efficient manner within the variety of Hospital programs. At Houston Methodist, the Director Nursing position is responsible for the 24/7 management of the assigned nursing units and departments in terms of the quality of nursing care delivered, as well as for planning, organizing, leading and evaluating nursing services within area of specialty. This position provides leadership and oversight in the accomplishment of strategic and operational objectives of the Department of Nursing. The Director Nursing position provides strategic direction for nursing and business operations, responsible for establishing strategic and tactical plans for clinical services, new programs and human resource allocation. The Director Nursing position works in cooperation with the Medical Staff to ensure regulations and accreditation standards are maintained. At Houston Methodist, the Perioperative Nurse Coordinator position is an experienced Operating Room Nurse, serving as a clinical resource, assumes leadership responsibilities with high-level contributions in direct patient interaction, functioning at the Expert level according to Benner's model of clinical practice. This position acts as the primary liaison between other departments, vendors, surgeons, anesthesia, and Operating Room (OR) staff, assisting management with the coordination and facilitation of care, process improvement, quality initiatives, and the overall growth of the perioperative program. The Perioperative Nurse Coordinator position provides patient care as an operating room nurse circulator or in a scrub role, as needed, and assists with providing breaks and lunches for staff. This position will assist with the standardization and efficiency of care for patients in the perioperative environment, evaluating direct and indirect costs. The Perioperative Nurse Coordinator position ensures appropriate and adequate resources are allocated for scheduled surgeries, including but not limited to appropriate staffing and staff skills set, supplies, instruments, and equipment. Proactively recognizes, determines a plan of action, and responds to situations, such as Rapid Response/CERTs, and emergency codes., • Implements department strategies to achieve financial target on unit-based scorecard and mentors others to do the same through timely documentation of care, decreasing length of stay, optimizing efficiency, minimizing incidental overtime, and other areas according to departmental specifications., • Attends daily care coordination rounds to facilitate patient progression. Ensures that follow-up has been implemented on any concerns or issues identified by the team. Manages productivity in accordance with staffing grid., • Fosters identification and implementation of innovative solutions for practice changes to improve patient care or unit operations such as reduction of hospital readmissions or other department-specific measures by leading and/or participating in unit projects and shared governance activities. Investigates and incorporates evidence-based practices which are presented to shared governance and leadership.
