Job Description We are seeking a skilled Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician to join our central fabrication facility team. In this role, you will be responsible for the fabrication, modification, and repair of custom orthotic and prosthetic devices to support patient mobility and quality of life. Working in a high-volume production environment, you will collaborate with team to ensure devices meet precise specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and passionate about assistive technology in healthcare. Key Responsibilities • Fabricate custom orthoses (braces, supports) and prostheses (artificial limbs) using materials such as thermoplastics, laminates, metals, and composites, based on patient casts,or blueprints., • Operate and maintain specialized fabrication equipment, including vacuum forming machines, ovens, grinders, routers., • Assemble, align, and finish devices to ensure proper fit, function, and aesthetics, incorporating components like joints, sockets, and components., • Perform modifications and repairs on existing devices, troubleshooting issues related to wear, alignment, or patient feedback., • Conduct quality control inspections to verify compliance with industry standards (e.g., ABC, BOC, or ISO guidelines) and ensure devices are safe, durable, and effective., • Collaborate with clinical staff to interpret prescriptions, measurements, and design specifications, providing input on material selection and fabrication techniques., • Maintain accurate documentation of fabrication processes, materials used, and inventory levels using facility software or tracking systems., • Assist in inventory management, ordering supplies, and ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and facility protocols., • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as testing new materials or processes to enhance efficiency and product quality., • Support training of junior technicians or apprentices as needed. Qualifications and Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical certification in orthotics/prosthetics, manufacturing, or a related field preferred., • Certification as an Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician (e.g., from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics - ABC) is highly desirable., • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in orthotic/prosthetic fabrication, preferably in a central lab or manufacturing setting., • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, biomechanics, and materials science relevant to orthotics and prosthetics., • Proficiency with fabrication tools, machinery, • Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, prescriptions, and specifications., • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work with potentially hazardous materials (with proper safety training)., • Commitment to patient-centered care, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness in a fast-paced environment., • Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management. Preferred Skills • Experience with digital fabrication technologies, such as 3D scanning and printing., • Familiarity with regulatory standards in medical device manufacturing., • Strong communication skills for team collaboration and feedback., • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry best practices.
