Job DescriptionJob Title: Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role focuses on inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory and safety standards. Responsibilities • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, calibrations, and service on machines, pumps, motors, HVAC units, facility pumps, and production equipment., • Clean, disassemble, inspect, repair, and reinstall machine components, ensuring all moving parts are properly lubricated., • Identify, document, and report damaged, worn, or malfunctioning parts and recommend appropriate corrective actions., • Conduct minor electrical troubleshooting and installations, including outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures., • Perform plumbing tasks such as working with copper piping, threading, soldering, ProPress connections, fixture repair, and installation., • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to enter, track, and close work orders, update equipment records, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules., • Ensure compliance with FDA, SQF, OSHA, and internal safety procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work area., • Accurately complete maintenance documentation, logbooks, and required forms in a timely manner., • Support overall facility upkeep, including responding to fire and burglar system alerts and coordinating work with outside contractors as needed., • Assist with equipment upgrades, new equipment installations, and utility connections to support production and facility improvements., • Follow all safety rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and contribute actively to an accident‑free work environment., • Operate scissor lifts, forklifts, and floor‑cleaning equipment safely as required for maintenance tasks., • Perform additional maintenance tasks and special projects as assigned, including work in tight or confined spaces when necessary., • Collaborate closely with maintenance, production, and cross‑functional teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.Essential Skills, • At least 5 years of maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment., • Vocational or technical training in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing trades., • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands‑on experience repairing pumps, mixers, motors, and related equipment., • Minimum of 2 years working within a structured preventive maintenance program., • Demonstrated experience performing minor electrical work, including troubleshooting and installing outlets, switches, and lighting., • Proficiency in plumbing tasks, including copper pipe work, threading, soldering, and use of ProPress systems., • Ability to perform welding tasks, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, to fabricate metal components and support repair and preventive maintenance work., • Experience maintaining and servicing HVAC systems and related components., • Advanced troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills for production and facility equipment., • Ability to document work accurately and consistently using a CMMS and basic computer applications., • Strong time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure., • Proficiency with hand and power tools commonly used in industrial maintenance., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks such as climbing, bending, and working in various positions., • Ability to operate scissor lifts, forklifts, and floor‑cleaning equipment safely., • Willingness and ability to work overtime and occasionally perform tasks in tight or confined spaces., • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working effectively with maintenance, production, and cross‑functional teams.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Knowledge of lean principles and continuous improvement practices., • Familiarity with FDA, SQF, and OSHA requirements in a manufacturing environment., • Experience supporting fire and burglar alarm systems and coordinating with external contractors., • Exposure to equipment upgrades, installations, and utility connections in an industrial setting., • Comfort working in environments with moderate to loud noise levels and near moving mechanical parts., • Ability to maintain detailed maintenance records, logbooks, and documentation with a high level of accuracy., • Strong commitment to safety, housekeeping, and maintaining an organized work environment.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role follows a first‑shift schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with an expectation of approximately eight hours of overtime per week. Overtime may occur before or after the regular shift or in 4–8 hour blocks on Saturdays, depending on operational needs. You work in a manufacturing environment that includes moving mechanical parts and occasionally precarious locations, with a noise level that ranges from moderate to loud. Some tasks may involve exposure to electrical components and a corresponding risk of electrical shock, with safety procedures and equipment in place to minimize hazards. You regularly use hand and power tools, as well as equipment such as scissor lifts, forklifts, and floor‑cleaning machines. The role is physically demanding and may require lifting up to 50 pounds and working in tight or confined spaces at times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carteret, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $36.00/hr.
