Entity: Production & Operations Job Family Group: IT&S Group Job Description: Position Overview The SAP Platform Owner at bpx energy will lead and oversee the SAP Platform Squad, ensuring effective operations, maintenance, enhancements, standards, and governance of our SAP S/4HANA landscape. This role will serve as the central coordinator across both the Technology organization and the broader bpx business, ensuring the SAP platform supports diverse enterprise initiatives. With SAP work distributed across multiple teams, the SAP Platform Owner is accountable for the prioritization of support efforts, and, more importantly, the overall coordination, integrity, and governance of the SAP S/4HANA system. The SAP Platform Owner’s responsibilities span all SAP environments, associated tools and applications, and all internal and external interfaces to bpx energy. In collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture team, the SAP Platform Owner will help define and drive the strategic use of SAP to address bpx energy’s most critical business priorities. A key focus will be helping the organization mature into a true “SAP Shop,” maximizing the return on our SAP investment while recognizing that SAP may not be the right fit-for-purpose solution for every business need. Key Accountabilities: • Lead the SAP Platform Squad, providing strategic direction and tactical prioritization to balance platform stability with the delivery of new business capabilities., • Define and maintain the SAP platform roadmap, incorporating both technical and functional elements in alignment with the broader enterprise strategy. A deep understanding of SAP’s product direction and complementary technologies is essential., • Collaborate closely with Value Squads and business stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage SAP capabilities, align on priorities, and sequence initiatives for maximum value delivery., • Ensure platform integrity, reliability, security, and governance, implementing and maintaining robust controls, policies, and standards., • Drive end-to-end SAP initiative delivery, applying a business transformation lens to define, communicate, and shepherd initiatives from conception through to completion., • Oversee the SAP production and project landscapes, ensuring integrated QA and deployment environments that support efficient change delivery to production, • Co-create and evolve the SAP platform strategy and architectural vision, in partnership with technology leads, solution architects, and enterprise architecture., • Maintain an up-to-date SAP solution roadmap, tracking industry trends and technology changes to ensure the platform remains current and aligned with business needs., • Conduct and share technology research and evaluations, advising on solution fit for SAP and the broader enterprise application ecosystem., • Provide technical consultation to both technology and business stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor for SAP platform-related decisions., • Champion architecture principles and governance frameworks, ensuring compliance and promoting consistency across the SAP ecosystem., • Mitigate risk through effective platform governance, including the application of security standards, data protection practices, and compliance measures., • Support proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives, collaborating with enterprise architects and delivery teams to test and validate potential SAP solutions., • Collaborate with SAP Solution and Enterprise Architects to define integration methods, middleware solutions, and testing frameworks used across the SAP landscape., • Guide and support SAP-focused Guilds, ensuring adherence to development standards, integration best practices, and continuous improvement efforts., • Act as a Change Agent, championing continuous improvement across people, processes, and technologies., • Enable agile delivery excellence, breaking down complex initiatives into actionable steps, supporting iterative progress, and relentlessly improving squad performance. Essential Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Management, or other relevant field, or equivalent experience. Qualifications: • 7–10+ years of experience in Information Technology leadership or management roles, with a strong focus on enterprise systems such as SAP., • 5–7+ years of SAP experience, preferably with S/4HANA, across implementation, operations, and support in complex or global environments., • Practical experience with SAP S/4HANA implementation and operations, including integration, customization, and lifecycle management in cloud-hosted environment., • Understanding SAP’s Clean Core strategy, with knowledge of side-by-side extensibility on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), minimizing in-core modifications, and governing custom code to ensure upgradability and maintainability., • Experience defining and executing an enterprise Fiori strategy, including role-based UX design, adoption of SAP Fiori Elements, custom app development, and alignment with SAP UX standards to drive improved user experience and productivity., • Broad functional experience across key SAP modules, including MM, P2P, VIM, PM, FI/CO, PRA, JVA, and EHS, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable platform capabilities., • Understanding of SAP security and governance, including GRC, identity and access management, and integration with third-party IAM platforms such as Azure AD is a plus., • Understanding of RISE architecture and familiarity with SAP-managed services, platform-level security, and upgrade processes under RISE, • SAP & SAP partner application and tools knowledge, such as Ariba, Open Text, Fiori, ABAP, NetWeaver, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), Business Technology Platform (BTP), etc., • Understanding of SAP integration and platform integration capabilities, such as CPI, as well as third-party systems including Ariba, Fieldglass, Concur, Workday, and OneSource., • Operational knowledge of SAP platform administration, including performance tuning, job/spool management, user administration, and SAP GUI management., • Experience driving platform modernization initiatives, including Fiori enablement, Clean Core adoption, and transition to cloud-native architectures., • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and SDLC, especially as applied to SAP solution delivery., • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate across business and technical stakeholders, including executive presentations and workshops., • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional and vendor teams in global and distributed environments with diverse competencies, skills, and abilities., • In addition to the essential criteria & qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:, • Oil and Gas Industry experience; experience in related industries, such as mining, manufacturing, or utilities, • Experience with Oil & Gas industry specific toolsets, such as PRA, IS-Oil, Quorum, Open Invoice, etc., • Experience with public cloud infrastructure services and their utilization for hosting enterprise application, particularly Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services; experience with cross-regional availability and disaster recovery a plus, • Agile practice experience, particularly as a Product Owner, • Vendor management experience; Experience in working in an onshore/offshore model, • Motivated, self-starter enthusiastic about affecting change, • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects, at times with conflicting priorities with a strong track record of delivery, • Ability to collaborate and build alignment with individuals and within multi-discipline teams. Additional Information: • Position is in Houston, TX or Denver, CO; Houston preferred., • Position requires occasional travel; more frequent and periodic if not located in Houston (up to one week per month)., • bpx energy implement a hybrid work environment, requiring 60% time in office, including full-time every other week. How much do we pay (Base)? $136,000-$172,000 *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
