Job Description We are seeking a Facilities Custodian / Janitor to join our team! You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Custodial • Secure the building (e.g., Sunday services, special events), including: setting and disarming the alarm, opening and locking doors, opening/closing windows, turning fans on or off, and ensuring all necessary lights are on or off., • Sweeps and mops all floors, stairwells on all levels of the building and in elevator vestibule and entrances., • Vacuums all areas of the building, including the altar, aisles, stage, and entrances., • Cleans all bathrooms., • Checks and replenishes supplies of paper towels, toilet tissue, and soap., • Opens, closes, cleans, and dusts doors, windows, and sills., • Wipes down pews and kneelers., • Removes garbage from the building., • Performs other related tasks as requested., • Routine set-up of tables and chairs., • Routine and special set-up and clean-up for meetings and events (i.e. table/chair layout), • Set up for Funerals including table set-up; parking restrictions; etc., • Performs and assists with small projects which could require knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, plastering, mechanical and electrical work., • Performs seasonal work such as cleanings the gutters in the Spring and Fall; the installation and removal of window air conditioners., • Ensures that walkways, parking lots, and common areas are free of snow, properly salted, and properly lighted., • Maintains grounds, mows, and edges as needed. Picks up branches, garbage, cleans drains, trims branches., • Operates power and hand tools such as drills, saws, cutters, and hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, saws, shovels, snow blower and other miscellaneous tools. Works with ladders., • Performs routine maintenance on mower, snowblower, grill etc., • Maintains work areas (boiler room, slop room, garage) in clean and orderly condition as well as tools and equipment., • Checks daily the operation of boiler system including chemicals and water levels. Reports any issues., • Monitors the sump pump in the elevator. Clear if plugged., • Checks daily building, grounds and facilities for damage, malfunctions, etc., • Replaces light bulbs inside and outside of building as needed., • Monitors all safety hazards and takes remedial action to ensure correction., • Performs routine checks on smoke detectors; emergency exit window; wall heaters; etc., • May be called to respond any day of the week or hour to alarms, e.g. fire, burglar, etc., • Reports all needed repairs to supervisor this includes inside and outside building/grounds., • Good knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machinery, plumbing, fixtures and equipment, • Ability to make repairs and adjustments to a variety of mechanical equipment, • Ability to understand and follow routine oral and written instructions, • Mechanical aptitude, • Practical problem-solving abilities, • Industrious, reliable and dependable, • Possess good time management skills, • Flexibility with work schedule, • Ability to work independently as well as in conjunction with other staff members and members of the team.
