If this resonates with you, consider the role below: \n \n POSITION PURPOSE: \n The Destination Concierge is a part-time, front-line role focused on welcoming visitors and providing exceptional customer service at the Visit Buffalo Canalside Visitor Center and during mobile visitor center events. Reporting directly to the Destination Experience Center Manager, with daily support from the Destination Experience Center Assistant Manager, the Concierge helps guests connect with Buffalo, Erie County, and the Western New York region’s story by offering accurate and engaging information while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. \n \n This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about Buffalo and Erie County, enjoy interacting with people, and thrive in a customer-focused hospitality environment. \n \n KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: \n\n • Greet and assist visitors at the Visitor Information Center and at off-site events, providing a positive and professional first impression.\n, • Provide accurate, timely information about Buffalo and Erie County’s neighborhoods, attractions, events, restaurants, and cultural institutions.\n, • Answer basic visitor questions by phone, email, or in person, and refer inquiries to the Assistant Manager or Manager when needed.\n, • Help distribute visitor guides and brochures to guests.\n, • Assist visitors with purchases to support merchandise sales.\n, • Keep the front desk and visitor area welcoming, tidy, and well-organized.\n, • Represent Visit Buffalo at special events, activations, and community outreach opportunities.\n, • Contribute to an inclusive, brand-aligned environment that celebrates Buffalo’s diversity and hospitality.\n\n \n SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: \n\n • Customer service or hospitality experience preferred.\n, • Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for interacting with visitors.\n, • Knowledge of Buffalo and Erie County, or curiosity and willingness to learn.\n, • Dependable, flexible, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.\n, • Availability on weekdays, weekends, evenings, and for special events.\n\n \n Skills and Qualifications \n\n • One to two years of customer service, hospitality, tourism, retail, or administrative support experience.\n, • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.\n, • Familiarity with Buffalo and Erie County, or a passion and curiosity to learn.\n, • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital tools.\n, • Reliable, adaptable, and detail-focused, with excellent organizational skills.\n, • Experience in community engagement, events, or volunteer coordination.\n, • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional special events as needed.\n, • Ideal candidates might include museum/attraction docents, retirees, former teachers/educators, college students, or others who enjoy sharing knowledge, engaging with people, and acting as enthusiastic ambassadors for Buffalo and Erie County.\n\n \n LOCATION & SCHEDULE: \n\n • Part-time (maximum 20 hours per week)\n, • Canalside Visitor Information Center location. Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends based on seasonality.\n\n \n Physical Demands and Working Conditions \n Physical demands of the job include, but are not limited to: \n o Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while greeting visitors or performing desk-related tasks. \n o Frequent walking within the Visitor Center and occasional walking during off-site activations or events. \n o Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 20 lbs. occasionally (such as visitor guides, small boxes of brochures, or light event materials). \n o Comfortable using a computer, phone, and other office technology for guest inquiries and information management. \n o Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays, as visitor volume demands. \n o Work mainly takes place indoors in a Visitor Center environment, with occasional outdoor assignments for mobile visitor center events or community activations. \n \n This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
