Patient Service Representative (PSR) — Medical or Dental \n Department: Clinical Services \n Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt \n Location: 6374 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60659 \n Reports To: Practice Manager \n Compensation: $21–$26/hour, based on experience \n \n Midwest Refuah Health Center (MRHC) is a growing community health center committed to providing accessible, high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals and families from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. \n \n We are looking for an experienced Patient Service Representative (PSR) to join our team in either Medical or Dental. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who who is experienced, dependable, patient-focused, and comfortable taking ownership of the front desk, who understands healthcare front-office operations, enjoys working directly with patients, and knows how to keep a busy clinic moving. You should be someone who can walk into a busy medical or dental office and understand how to keep things moving, while still making patients feel welcomed and respected. \n \n Our PSRs are an important part of the patient experience and care team. You will work closely with providers, medical and dental assistants, and administrative staff to create a welcoming, efficient, and respectful experience for every patient. \n \n This is a full-time position. Some evening and weekend hours may be required based on departmental needs. \n \n What You'll Do \n\n • Welcome patients and visitors warmly and professionally, both in person and by phone.\n, • Register new and established patients and maintain accurate demographic and insurance information.\n, • Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and cancel appointments while optimizing provider schedules and patient access.\n, • Verify insurance eligibility and assist with insurance-related questions and basic billing inquiries.\n, • Collect copayments, balances, and other patient payments according to organizational policies.\n, • Respond to patient calls, voicemails, portal messages, and other communications promptly and professionally.\n, • Monitor patient flow and communicate scheduling delays or other issues to patients and clinical staff.\n, • Provide clear information and orientation to patients and families regarding health center services and processes.\n, • Support appointment reminders, patient outreach, recalls, and other patient engagement activities.\n, • Work closely with providers and clinical staff to support efficient patient flow and coordinated care.\n, • Assist patients who may be anxious, distressed, ill, or experiencing barriers to care with patience and professionalism.\n, • Provide culturally sensitive, respectful, and patient-centered service to individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.\n, • Participate in team huddles and contribute to a collaborative clinic environment.\n, • Assist with front-office organization, supplies, forms, mail, and other administrative needs.\n, • Support other areas of the clinic during high-volume periods, including scheduling and patient flow.\n, • Participate in emergency response procedures and other duties as assigned.\n\n \n This position is best suited for someone with prior healthcare patient-access/front-desk experience. Medical or dental office experience is strongly preferred. \n\n • Previous experience as a Patient Service Representative, Medical Receptionist, Dental Receptionist, Front Desk Representative, Patient Access Representative, or similar healthcare role.\n, • Experience working in a medical or dental practice, clinic, hospital, behavioral health setting, or other healthcare environment.\n, • Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and healthcare scheduling systems.\n, • Strong understanding of patient registration, insurance verification, appointment scheduling, and front-office workflows.\n, • Excellent customer service and communication skills.\n, • Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate when working with patients who are upset, anxious, frustrated, or experiencing barriers to care.\n, • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.\n, • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.\n, • Ability to work collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, and administrative team members.\n, • Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality.\n, • Bilingual skills are a plus.\n\n \n Education & Experience \n\n • High school diploma or equivalent required.\n, • Prior healthcare front-office/patient-access experience strongly preferred.\n, • Medical or dental office experience preferred.\n, • Experience with an EHR/EMR and scheduling system preferred.\n, • Bilingual skills are a plus.\n\n \n Physical Requirements \n\n • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.\n, • Frequent use of telephone and computer systems.\n, • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the health center as needed.\n, • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.\n\n \n Benefits \n\n • Medical, Dental, Vision & Life Insurance\n, • 401(k)\n, • FSA/HSA options\n, • Short-Term Disability\n, • Tuition Reimbursement Program\n, • Paid Holidays\n, • 8 Floating Holidays\n, • 15 Days of PTO\n\n \n Midwest Refuah Health Center is an equal opportunity employer.
