Job Description We are seeking a Direct Support Professional to join our team! You will assist in the daily care of elderly or disabled individuals. VFCC-Direct Support Professional (DSP) Position Position Purpose The Direct Support Professional (DSP) serves as an integral member of the clinical team, dedicated to providing compassionate support and assistance to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health challenges. This role is essential in helping these individuals reach their fullest potential by delivering the support necessary for independent living while prioritizing their wellness, health, and safety. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, the DSP offers a broad spectrum of services designed to address the environmental, physical, psychosocial, and personal needs of those in their care. The DSP is responsible for supporting and implementing each individual’s vision and outcomes as outlined in the Person-Centered Support Plan. In addition to direct care, the DSP ensures agency compliance with established policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and supportive environment where individuals are properly supervised and empowered to live as independently as possible. Through their commitment, the DSP upholds the organization’s mission by fostering a culture rooted in compassion, hope, service, and collaboration. Responsibilities and duties As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will actively participate in the circles of support, contributing to the development and implementation of outcomes that are agreed upon by the circle of support. You are expected to document the progress of the person supported toward their vision in daily participation logs, utilizing techniques identified in the support plan. All state and agency-related training must be completed, and you are responsible for implementing training goals assigned by the circle of support for the person supported. Accurate records of progress on all Person-Centered Support Plan (PCSP) goals must be maintained by documenting responses through daily notes in the electronic health record. You will assist and ensure that each person supported with daily living skills is protected from harm. Attendance at all scheduled staff and agency meetings, trainings for recertification, and other assigned sessions is required; children or relatives are not permitted at these meetings. The role involves collecting data and implementing the Behavior Supports Plan as developed by the Behavior Specialist or Analyst. You must complete orientation to meet all state and agency training requirements at a minimum of 80% and fulfill any future training assigned by your supervisor or as a result of periodic job evaluations. Maintaining a current driver’s license is required, along with providing the agency with documentation of your personal vehicle’s maintenance and proof of vehicle insurance for any outside or agency vehicle used for community participation or other activities. This includes when transporting persons supported. Your responsibilities include transporting persons supported to social, recreational, and religious activities as scheduled on the activity calendar. Transport to your personal home is not allowed unless approved by the Director and, if applicable, the conservator. You will assist in maintaining and caring for the home, supplies, and equipment, which includes keeping vehicles clean and updating the vehicle log. You are accountable for the use and inventory of equipment, supplies, and appliances purchased for the person supported. Smoking, eating, or drinking in agency vehicles is prohibited. When assigned, you will administer routine oral medication as prescribed, following agency policies and procedures and the instructions for medication administration training for unlicensed personnel. You must complete all required incident report and report incidents within the required timeframe upon discovery or witnessing any abuse, neglect, exploitation, or reportable staff misconduct. Family/conservators and ISC/SC must be notified of incidents within the required time frame. Accurate and complete entries in the home’s daily log are essential to ensure that 24-hour logs are both present and accurate. Before moving any van or vehicle from a parked position, ensure that all passengers and yourself are properly secured with seat belts. Persons supported must be assisted on and off all vehicles as needed. You are expected to report for duty at your scheduled time and properly utilize the time and attendance system currently in place. You are to go off duty only when appropriately relieved and must always be able to account for the whereabouts of the persons supported during your on-duty hours. It is essential to consistently demonstrate respect towards all individuals supported by the agency, as well as their families, neighbors, and fellow staff members. In the event of any person supported or staff injury, it must be promptly reported and documented. Awareness of agency on-call procedures is necessary for reporting emergencies related to persons supported, the home or facility, or vehicles after office hours, on weekends, or holidays. You will assist with the personal care needs of the person supported, which may include bathing, feeding, ironing, laundry, personal grooming, and other activities of daily living. Responsibilities also include helping to prepare well-balanced and diverse meals that meet nutritional needs as outlined in the approved meal plan. You will assist the Residential Manager with quality inspections of the home or facility to ensure compliance with sanitary and safety standards. Assistance is given to persons supported for preparing belongings needed for travel, including home visits, overnight stays, or vacations. You will document the expenses of the person supported monthly using a cash expenditure envelope and ensure that all receipts are secured within the envelope. Keep accurate records of each person’s PCSP, including daily outcomes, action steps, and major events. Follow the dress code and wear your agency ID badge. Use universal precautions and follow infection control policies when assisting others. Implement behavior and therapy plans correctly, and ensure accountability for medications, MARS, vehicles, personal items, money, food, and other daily essentials. Responsibilities You are expected to assist, encourage, and support the person supported in practicing cleanliness and safety, remaining aware of all policies, procedures, and laws relevant to the role. Professional ethical standards should be consistently practiced and encouraged to ensure fair and consistent supervision and training. You will also support the person supported in maintaining a friendly, clean, and organized home environment. You will assist the person supported and supervisory staff in ensuring compliance with all regulatory inspections, serve on agency committees as assigned, and complete special projects as assigned by the Residential Manager, QIDP, Home Coordinator, Assistant Residential Director, or Regional Director. Job Qualifications A High School Diploma or GED is necessary, but applicants with at least one year of direct care experience are also considered. This role requires strong verbal and written communication, thorough documentation skills, sound judgment, and excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management abilities. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities, families, colleagues, supervisors, funding agencies, and other social service professionals. Physical capacity to meet job demands is essential, along with the ability to supervise or assist people supported through the Residential program. The position also expects candidates to work independently with minimal supervision. Additional requirements include being at least 18 years old, holding a valid driver's license from TN, AR, or MS, and successfully passing all pre-employment screenings, such as criminal background checks and drug testing. The work environment consists of modern, well-lit office facilities in multiple locations, with multiple levels of stairs accessible by elevator.
