Behavioral Assessment Link POSITION SUMMARY: The Water Polo Head Coach is responsible for planning, leading, and supporting the YMCA of Montclair’s Water Polo program. This role focuses on skill development, teamwork, safety, and sportsmanship, while promoting the YMCA of Montclair’s mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Plan and conduct engaging and skill-based water polo practices for youth participants., • Teach and reinforce fundamentals including treading, passing, shooting, defense, positioning, and game rules., • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following YMCA of Montclair and aquatics safety protocols., • Maintain constant supervision of participants, ensuring appropriate behavior and adherence to pool rules., • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to promote individual improvement and team cohesion., • Set up and break down equipment for practices, clinics, and scrimmages., • Organizing internal scrimmages, games, and special events., • Communicate effectively with players, parents/guardians, and the Senior Director of Aquatics regarding schedules, expectations, and progress., • Record attendance and assist with session evaluations and program growth., • Model the YMCA’s values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility at all times., • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants., • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants., • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures. LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: • Emotional Maturity, • Communication, • Critical Thinking and Decision Making QUALIFICATIONS: • Minimum age of 18, • Knowledge of water polo fundamentals, gameplay strategy, and rules., • Prior experience playing or coaching water polo preferred., • Strong communication skills and ability to motivate and support youth participants., • CPR/AED & First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire)., • Lifeguard certification preferred but not required., • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote an inclusive team environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Ability to pass lifeguard skills assessment and water test., • Ability to swim and safely navigate the pool deck and aquatic environment., • Capable of demonstrating water polo skills when needed., • Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds., • Indoor pool facility with warm and humid conditions., • Practice and events may require evening or weekend availability.
