Job Description HEAD LIFEGUARD JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Head Lifeguard Related Title: Lifeguards Reports to: Assistant Aquatics Director Director and Aquatics Director Supervises: Lifeguards, Porters Position Summary: Ensures the safety of all pool members and guests by preventing and responding to emergencies. Must implement all water safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe, friendly environment for all Westwood Country Club pool patrons. Assists in scheduling and in-service training (Head Guard). This is a seasonal, hourly position. Reports to the Assistant Aquatics Director and Aquatics Director. Position Characteristics: A successful Lifeguard is professional, responsible, and respectful. Must have strong verbal communication skills. As an employee in charge of the safety and well-being of Club members and guests in and around the pool area, he/she must be observant and promptly respond to anyone needing assistance. He/she is reliable, attentive, and carefully follows all directions and instructions. Is courteous to all Club members, guests, and staff. Maintains a positive, professional manner at all times. Essential Job Functions: o Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. o Performs lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques according to LTFA training guidelines. o Understands, enforces, and follows all club and pool rules, policies, and procedures. o Oversee lifeguards. o Complete additional duties as assigned by Water Safety Director and Aquatics Director. o Administer first aid to minor injuries; activate emergency action plans; serve as a first responder in case of a rescue or critical injury until EMS arrives. WESTWOOD COUNTRY CLUB 2 7/25/2022 o Maintain a clean pool including chemical maintenance, brush and vacuum pool, empty skimmer baskets, skim debris from surface. o Maintain the cleanliness of the pool area (deck, showers, and bathrooms); maintain upkeep/stock of towels. o Maintain necessary records (water chemistry, sign-in sheets, guest charges, and incident reports) o Maintain all necessary records including water chemistry, and incident reports. o Comprehensive understanding of the Club’s pool facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures. o Assure that all members and guests are properly signed in at the pool desk before entering the facility. Additional Responsibilities and Job Requirements: o Provide back up to the pool Porters to ensure that all members and guests are properly signed in at the pool desk before entering the facility. o Ability to take and follow directions. o Attend in-service trainings; and all meetings as required. o Capable of working/cleaning with chlorine and swimming in chlorinated water o Complete additional duties as assigned by Assistant Aquatics Director and Aquatics Director Education and/or Experience: The position requires current Lifeguard Training and First Aid certification. Current CPR/AED certification required. Must have at least one (1) year of previous lifeguard experience. Physical Demands: This position routinely requires sitting, standing, walking, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, holding, twisting, reaching, climbing stairs. The employee will have the ability to lift and/or move at least fifty pounds on a consistent basis. The Lifeguard will exhibit physical exertion; must be able to swim 500 yards and tread water for at least 2 minutes. Appearance and Grooming: All employees are required to follow the guidelines set forth by the associate handbook regarding proper workplace appearance. Employees must adhere to their department’s uniform requirements. Language Skills: Must be able to listen and follow directions; speak clearly and concisely to maintain proper, effective communication with staff, Club members and guests. Reasoning Abilities: Use discretion and exercise good judgment, and acknowledge all members, guests, and staff checking-in or walking past. Cell phones are strictly prohibited while greeting and use of the tablets are for business purposes only. Understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions. Work quickly and accurately, both independently and as a part of a team. Physical Demands: This position routinely requires sitting, standing, walking, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, holding/lifting, twisting, reaching, and climbing stairs. Have the ability to lift and/or move at least fifty (50) pounds on a consistent basis. Must be able to stand for long periods. Work Environment: The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate and is typical of a country club pool environment but cannot account for extraordinary circumstances. Depending on Club events, the noise level can become elevated at times. This position necessitates working indoors and in the outdoor elements, extreme heat to possible colder temperatures.
