Job DescriptionSalary: $70,000-75,000 AGENCY: Homeless Childrens Network TITLE: Maat Mental Health Coordinator SALARY: SCHEDULE: Full-time position, 40 hours per week BENEFITS: Health, Dental, and Vision insurance; Commuter stipend About Homeless Childrens Network (HCN) Homeless Childrens Network (HCN) is a San Franciscobased nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the wellbeing of children, youth, and families impacted by homelessness, housing instability, poverty, and systemic inequities. For over 35 years, HCN has provided culturally responsive, trauma-informed, community-based mental health and wellness services across the city, with a focus on Black/African American families and communities most disproportionately affected by structural racism. HCNs model is rooted in healing justice, cultural humility, deep community partnerships, and a commitment to increasing access to mental health services for families who are often underserved or overlooked by traditional systems of care. Through individual therapy, family support, workforce development, early childhood consultation, leadership programs, and community wellness initiatives, HCN serves thousands of children and families each year. Maat Program Overview The Maat Program is HCNs Afri-centric clinical and community wellness initiative designed to support children, youth, and families in San Francisco with culturally grounded mental health services, case coordination, healing-centered engagement, and community connection. Rooted in the principles of balance, truth, order, reciprocity, and harmony, Maat integrates Black cultural knowledge, trauma-informed care, and community-defined best practices to honor the lived experiences of families impacted by generational trauma, racism, displacement, and poverty. The program provides clinical servicesincluding therapy, family work, and emotional wellness supportdelivered in community settings, homes, schools, and transitional or permanent supportive housing sites. Maat staff work closely with families to address emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges, while strengthening protective factors, enhancing resilience, and supporting overall wellbeing. With an emphasis on trust, cultural affirmation, and genuine partnership, the Maat Program uplifts families through holistic healing, community connection, and resource access. About the Position The Mental Health Program Coordinator is a middle-management clinical role designed for experienced clinicians seeking a structured pathway into leadership. This position provides both direct clinical services and programmatic oversight, supporting the day-to-day operations of two mental health programs: • a clinical mental health treatment program, and Key Responsibilities Clinical Services • Maintain a small caseload providing individual therapy to children, youth, and/or families in alignment with organizational standards and evidence-based practices, • Facilitate mental health groups and psychoeducational offerings as part of the organizations group and training programs, • Deliver independent trainings, workshops, or presentations to staff, partners, or community members as assigned, • Support the implementation and ongoing coordination of two mental health programs, ensuring alignment with program goals and funder requirements, • Assist with scheduling, service delivery workflows, and coordination across clinicians and program components, • Provide informal mentorship and clinical coaching to peers, with a focus on workflow optimization, treatment planning, and professional development, • Model effective time management, clinical organization, and ethical practice, • Serve as a resource for entry-level clinicians, fostering a culture of learning, confidence, and professional growth, • Act as a manager-in-training, gradually assuming leadership responsibilities under the guidance of the Program Manager and Director, • Participate in leadership meetings, planning discussions, and quality improvement initiatives, • Support organizational initiatives that promote staff engagement, clinical excellence, and program sustainability Qualifications Required • Several years of experience providing direct clinical mental health services, • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload while balancing additional responsibilities, • Experience facilitating groups and delivering trainings, • Preferred but not required: Masters degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field, • Associate registration toward licensure (e.g., AMFT, ACSW, APCC) and actively progressing toward full licensure, • Prior experience serving in a lead, senior clinician, or informal supervisory role, • Interest in long-term leadership and management within community mental health, • Clinical judgment and professionalism, • Leadership presence and approachability, • Time management and workflow optimization, • Clear communication and collaborative problem-solving, • Commitment to mentorship, equity, and staff development HCNs Community Culture Of all the above important qualifications, bring the heartfelt quality of compassion, with exquisite cultural responsiveness as a primary guiding quality, not only of your professional life, but of what you hold dear.
