Job DescriptionJob Title: Manual Machinist Job Description This role is based in a large, state-of-the-art service and repair shop specializing in compressors, valves, and rotating equipment for refinery customers. As a Manual Machinist, you will produce precision parts using mills and lathes, working with a wide range of materials and part sizes, including exotic metals. You will be part of a collaborative team of machinists, mechanics, material handlers, and quality control professionals in a highly organized and air-conditioned facility. Responsibilities • Set up and operate manual mills and lathes to produce parts for compressors, valves, and various rotating equipment., • Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to machine parts to exact specifications., • Machine components from carbon steel, stainless steel, and exotic metals, covering a large range of part sizes., • Perform close-tolerance machining using precision measuring tools such as micrometers to verify dimensions., • Use and operate equipment such as Willis, Bridgeport, LeBlond, Bullard, Kingston machines, as well as HBM and VTL where applicable., • Maintain accuracy and quality standards throughout the machining process, ensuring parts meet customer and shop requirements., • Collaborate closely with other manual machinists, CNC machinists, mechanics, material handlers, and QC staff to complete jobs efficiently., • Support a team-oriented environment by sharing knowledge, assisting colleagues, and avoiding solo, isolated work practices., • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop safety guidelines., • Keep work areas clean, organized, and aligned with the shop’s standards for efficiency and workflow.Essential Skills, • At least 10 years of experience in manual machining., • Proficiency in operating manual mills and manual lathes., • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints., • Hands-on experience machining carbon steel and stainless steel components., • Demonstrated capability working to close tolerances with consistent accuracy., • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers., • Experience with heavy machining equipment such as HBM (Horizontal Boring Mill) and VTL (Vertical Turret Lathe)., • Familiarity with machines including Willis, Bridgeport, LeBlond, Bullard, and Kingston., • Proven background in machining parts for compressor components and valve parts., • Ability to handle a wide range of part sizes and complex geometries.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working with exotic metals in a machining environment., • background in a large service and repair shop or similar industrial setting., • Comfort working in a highly organized, process-driven shop environment., • Strong teamwork orientation and willingness to work closely with a back crew rather than as a lone worker., • Reliability in maintaining production schedules, including extended shifts when business needs increase., • Interest in long-term employment with opportunities for career mapping and growth.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a brand-new, state-of-the-art shop located in Houston, TX, featuring a large, air-conditioned, and highly organized facility. The environment includes a mix of manual machinists, CNC machinists, mechanics, material handlers, and quality control staff, all working in a collaborative, team-oriented setting. The culture does not favor lone working and instead emphasizes a strong back crew and mutual support. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. During busy periods, shifts may extend to 10-hour days and include Saturdays as needed. The shop uses a variety of manual machines, including Willis, Bridgeport, LeBlond, Bullard, Kingston, as well as HBM and VTL equipment. Dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting a safety-conscious industrial environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pasadena, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
