Job Description Department Manager – Data Center Operations Location: Cedar Rapids, IA Project Duration: Minimum 7 years Employment Type: Full‑Time, On‑Site Position Overview We are seeking a Department Manager to lead our portion of a large, mission‑critical data center campus in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role is responsible for building and managing the team, overseeing day‑to‑day operations, and running the site as a business—with full accountability for staffing, performance, safety, customer delivery, and profitability. The Department Manager will serve as the primary on‑site leader and customer liaison, ensuring all departmental activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with project and company goals. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, mentor, and manage department staff (exempt and non‑exempt), • Establish clear expectations, hold team members accountable, and manage performance, promotions, and corrective actions in accordance with company policies, • Build and sustain a strong team culture aligned with company values and long‑term project objectives, • Plan, assign, and manage workload distribution across the department to meet schedule, quality, and delivery commitments, • Oversee execution of multiple scopes of work, which may include structured cabling, low‑voltage systems, AV, security, life safety, estimating, or BIM, • Ensure work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and customer requirements, • Manage departmental budgets and project financials, including labor planning and cost control, • Monitor and maintain project profitability in alignment with revenue and margin targets, • Participate in the bid process, scope development, and project planning activities, • Act as the primary company liaison to customer representatives and project stakeholders, • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through proactive communication and issue resolution, • Lead and enforce all safety and quality standards on customer work sites, • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements, • Learn and utilize company and customer project management, financial, and operational systems, • Develop, document, and implement site‑specific process improvements, • Support reporting, documentation, and performance tracking using standard business tools Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred, • Minimum 7 years of supervisory or managerial experience, including direct people management, • Minimum 5 years of experience in telecommunications, low‑voltage systems, construction, infrastructure, or a related technical field, • Proven experience serving as a customer-facing leader or liaison, • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, • Strong problem‑solving, critical thinking, and communication skills (written and verbal), • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook; MS Project preferred), • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project documentation, • Ability to travel within branch or regional territory as required, • Must meet company driving standards and be able to secure and maintain a company‑sponsored American Express card Preferred Skills & Experience • Project management and construction management experience, • Data center or mission‑critical infrastructure exposure, • Experience managing P&L responsibility for a department or site, • Experience building teams and scaling operations in long‑term projects, • Familiarity with structured cabling, low‑voltage, and infrastructure environments Compensation & Benefits • Base Salary: $120,000 – $140,000, • Bonus Potential: $15,000 – $20,000 per quarter (up to ~$80,000 annually), based on revenue and profitability targets, • Cell Phone Allowance: $150/month, • Car Allowance: $750/month, • Total Compensation Range: $210,000 – $230,000 annually Why Join Us This is a long‑term leadership opportunity for someone who wants to own a site, build a team, and run a business within a high‑visibility, mission‑critical data center environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Iowa City, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $200000.00 - $240000.00/yr.
