Orbital Engineering is seeking a highly organized, client-focused GIS Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of geospatial and data-driven programs across utilities, energy, and industrial sectors. This role is responsible for managing project scope, schedule, and budget while serving as the primary point of accountability for client satisfaction, delivery quality, and internal coordination. This is a fully remote position within the United States. The GIS Project Manager will work closely with clients, engineering teams, developers, and data professionals to translate business and operational needs into executable project plans and successful outcomes. The ideal candidate combines strong GIS domain expertise with disciplined project management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder programs in both waterfall and agile delivery environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Position duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Project Planning & Delivery: Lead GIS and data projects from initiation through closeout, defining scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and success criteria., • Client Leadership: Serve as the primary client point of contact, leading kickoff meetings, status updates, phase reviews, and executive presentations., • Scope, Schedule, and Budget Management: Track and control project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource plans, ensuring delivery commitments are met and risks are managed., • Team Leadership & Delegation: Manage, mentor, and delegate work across GIS specialists, analysts, and technical contributors to ensure efficient execution and staff development., • Delivery Methodology: Apply appropriate project management frameworks (waterfall, agile, or hybrid) based on project needs, ensuring transparency and predictability., • Enterprise GIS Oversight: Oversee solution design and delivery across ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and enterprise geodatabases, ensuring governance, performance, and reliability., • Data Integration & Automation: Oversee and guide use of FME and FME Server for data ingestion, transformation, and automation across enterprise systems., • Quality & Standards: Ensure deliverables meet Orbital standards for quality, security, documentation, and operational readiness., • Risk & Issue Management: Identify, track, and mitigate project risks and issues, escalating as appropriate and managing client and leadership expectations., • Change Management: Manage change requests through formal change control processes, assessing impacts to scope, schedule, cost, and risk., • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, decision logs, and client reports., • Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned and contribute to the refinement of Orbital’s GIS delivery methodologies and best practices. Education and Experience • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field., • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in GIS, geospatial technology, or data-driven project delivery, including experience leading or managing projects and client engagements., • Technical Experience: Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, enterprise geodatabases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, or Oracle), ArcGIS Pro, FME, and FME Server (Flow). Nice to Have: • Experience delivering GIS programs in utilities, energy, pipeline, or industrial environments., • Experience managing multi-phase or multi-program portfolios., • Familiarity with data governance, asset management, inspection, or digital twin programs., • Experience integrating GIS with external enterprise systems (e.g., asset management, inspection, ERP, or data lake platforms). Requirements: • Professional Presence: Maintains a clean, professional appearance and represents Orbital Engineering appropriately in all client and partner interactions., • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including leading meetings, delivering presentations, and producing clear documentation., • Project Management Expertise: Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, risks, and resources across complex technical projects in both waterfall and agile environments., • Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, delegate work effectively, mentor staff, and drive accountability across cross-functional teams., • GIS Platform Expertise: Strong experience with ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcGIS Enterprise, and enterprise geodatabases (EGDB), including publishing, governance, and operational workflows., • Desktop GIS Expertise: Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro for enterprise data management, analysis, and map production., • Data Integration & Automation: Experience with FME and FME Server (Flow) for enterprise data pipelines and system integrations., • Domain Knowledge: Experience delivering GIS solutions in utilities, energy, pipeline, emergency management, or industrial environments., • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze complex operational and technical challenges and implement scalable solutions., • Organization: Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects., • Adaptability: Comfortable operating in dynamic, fast-paced environments with evolving technologies and client needs., • Language: Fluency in English with the ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to business and technical stakeholders.
