Position Summary The Shipping Manager oversees all outbound shipping and logistics operations for a manufacturing facility that produces mirrors and collision avoidance systems for fleet buses, including transit, municipal, and commercial vehicle applications. This role operates within a high-stress and historically under-structured department and requires an experienced, hands-on leader capable of stabilizing operations and ensuring on-time delivery of large, fragile, and high-value products. The Shipping Manager must remain calm and effective in a chaotic environment, balancing tight customer deadlines, freight challenges, and compliance requirements while working closely with trucking companies, warehouse staff, and internal teams. Primary Responsibilities Manage all outbound shipping operations to ensure fleet bus mirrors are shipped safely, accurately, and on schedule Prepare and maintain detailed daily and weekly shipping schedules aligned with production output and customer delivery requirements Coordinate and oversee loading and unloading of semi-trucks, ensuring proper handling of fragile mirror products Negotiate freight pricing, terms, and service levels with carriers, with an emphasis on damage prevention, reliability, and cost control Ensure all domestic and international shipments comply with applicable customs regulations, trade rules, and shipping documentation requirements (including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and export paperwork) Oversee proper packing, crating, labeling, and palletizing of product to meet customer specifications, carrier requirements, and regulatory standards Verify that products are correctly labeled for fleet customers, transit authorities, and OEM requirements Operate a forklift as needed to support shipping activities and maintain operational flow Respond to and resolve shipping errors, damage issues, missed pickups, and last-minute schedule changes Maintain accurate shipping records, tracking information, and compliance documentation Lead, train, and hold shipping staff accountable for safety, accuracy, and performance Work within and around outdated systems and processes, identifying opportunities for improvement where feasible Maintain composure and sound judgment during periods of operational stress, production delays, or conflicting priorities Supervision of approximately 10 employees Required Qualifications At least 5 years' of proven experience managing shipping or logistics operations in a manufacturing or industrial environment Strong working knowledge of freight shipping, customs rules, and required documentation for domestic and international deliveries Experience coordinating semi-truck shipments and working directly with carriers and freight brokers Demonstrated ability to negotiate freight rates and transportation services Forklift certification or the ability to safely operate a forklift (certification required or obtained shortly after hire) Strong organizational, scheduling, and problem-solving skills Ability to remain calm, decisive, and solutions-focused in a high-pressure, unstructured environment Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally Working Conditions High-stress manufacturing and warehouse environment with frequent deadlines Regular exposure to loading docks, semi-trucks, forklifts, and shipping equipment Extended hours may be required during peak production or urgent fleet delivery schedules Benefits Medical Voluntary Life 401K Paid Time Off 10 paid holidays.
