Job Description Job Purpose The Lead Dockworker assists management in the coordination of the customers’ docks and the company’s employees. This position also assists dockworkers and drivers in daily dock activities. Essential Functions • Perform all duties of Dockworker;, • Under the direction of management, coordinate assigned dock including coordinating employees, paperwork, and dock activities;, • Identify and communicate all issues and concerns with management (includes adherence to compliance standards, company policy, processes / SOPs, safety, and security protocols);, • Assist management in collaboration and information exchange with partners and clients;, • Prepare required paperwork for shipping/receiving client’s product to/from outside venders, customers and other locations;, • Oversee operations e-mail communications, perform data entry to record material transactions/shipment status updates, create HAWBs and dispatch ad hoc shipment requests;, • Participate in facility audits, perform safety and security inspections;, • Ensure all shipments are properly labeled, staged, and perform quality check prior to loading;, • Oversee loading and ensure all loads are properly secured for transit;, • Follow and enforce standard operating procedures for assigned shifts, which can include lifting, moving, and shrink-wrapping loads as well as loading and unloading the truck;, • As part of the local safety team, actively participate in emergency response training, planning, preparation, and scheduled activities;, • Maintain security seal inventory, seal logs, and oversee loading process;, • Adhere to all company and customer policies, procedures, quality, safety, and security requirements, and reporting policies. Secondary Functions • May oversee local facility to include safety & security processes, inspections, reports, and communication of issues with management;, • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications • 5 years in the transportation and logistics industry as a commercial driver, dock worker, warehouse coordinator or similar position;, • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership position;, • Material handler experience required, Forklift certification preferred;, • Advanced knowledge of SOPs and shipping & receiving processes;, • In-depth understanding of administrative paperwork associated with the docks and shipping;, • Ability to understand & troubleshoot processes, Company Apps / systems, scanning, technology diagnoses & resolve tactical issues;, • Excellent communication / listening skills (both written and verbal); Spanish a plus;, • Working knowledge of Microsoft office (Word & Excel), email, and smart-phone applications;, • Proven ability to work well in teams and model company policy / processes;, • Track record of independent decision-making ability;, • Demonstrated problem solving skills;, • Ability to identify customers’ needs, clarify information, research issues, and provide appropriate solutions seeking management guidance as appropriate;, • Must be able to lift at least 75 pounds; beyond 75 pounds with the proper equipment and/or assistance of others;, • Must have ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, kneel, lift, climb, and/or reach for extended periods of time;, • Must have ability to work in a fast-paced operations environment;, • Must be able to use a pallet jack, palletize boxes, and shrink-wrap pallets;, • Must be able to work in severe weather conditions: both heat and cold.
