Job DescriptionJob Title: Field Service Engineer I – AMHS Sustaining TeamJob Description This Field Service Engineer I role focuses on sustaining and supporting Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) in a highly technical industrial environment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot complex electromechanical and software issues, and help ensure maximum equipment uptime and reliability. The position combines hands-on work with advanced automation systems, detailed documentation, and close collaboration with engineering, operations, and customer teams. Responsibilities • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and system repairs on Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) to ensure reliable and efficient operation., • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software-related issues on automated equipment and associated subsystems., • Analyze system logs, alarms, and error reports to identify root causes of equipment failures and recurring issues., • Verify software revisions, system configurations, and equipment status during maintenance and troubleshooting activities to ensure systems operate within specifications., • Install, configure, and validate hardware and software updates on supported AMHS platforms and related equipment., • Use technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, maintenance procedures, and service manuals to guide repairs and adjustments., • Support sustaining activities to maximize equipment uptime, throughput, and overall system reliability., • Escalate complex hardware and software issues to engineering teams and assist with data collection, testing, and troubleshooting to resolve systemic problems., • Complete factory training and certification requirements on multiple AMHS platforms and subsystems and maintain current knowledge of system updates and best practices., • Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, troubleshooting steps, and equipment status in logs and reports for traceability and continuous improvement., • Collaborate with co-workers and customers to verbally troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, providing clear explanations and guidance., • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, laptop-based service software, and log analysis tools to evaluate system performance and identify faults., • Follow safety procedures and work practices while operating near moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, and in clean room environments., • Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and clear expectations regarding service activities., • Travel as required to customer sites to install, maintain, and support AMHS and related automated equipment.Essential Skills, • Minimum 12+ months of hands-on technical experience troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, or repairing industrial equipment, automation systems, semiconductor equipment, robotics, or electromechanical systems (excluding internships, school projects, and academic lab work)., • Associate degree, technical certification, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electronics, or a related field., • At least 6+ months of experience verbally troubleshooting technical issues with a co-worker or customer., • Minimum 12+ months of professional experience through military technical training or equivalent hands-on experience in a relevant technical discipline., • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electromechanical systems, including automated and AMHS equipment., • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and mechanical drawings., • Basic knowledge of electrical diagnostic instruments and shop/hand tools, including safe and effective use., • Mechanical knowledge and experience working with electromechanical systems and automated equipment., • Proficiency in using precision measuring tools for maintenance, alignment, and repair tasks., • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electromechanical devices and systems using systematic problem-solving methods., • PC skills, including familiarity with MS Office, Excel, and Windows-based systems., • Familiarity with Windows-based systems, device communications, and basic networking concepts., • Strong troubleshooting skills for automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, conveyors, AMHS, semiconductor equipment, PLC-controlled systems, or industrial automation., • Understanding of mechanical assemblies, sensors, motors, drives, pneumatics, and motion control systems., • Strong documentation and reporting skills to accurately record maintenance activities and equipment status., • Excellent customer satisfaction skills and a service-oriented mindset., • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute as a collaborative team player., • Flexible, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities., • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain necessary travel documentation., • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, conveyors, AMHS, semiconductor equipment, PLC-controlled systems, or industrial automation., • Ability to use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, laptop-based service software, and log analysis tools to identify and resolve equipment issues., • Experience with field service work, including on-site installation, repair, and sustaining support for automated systems., • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control systems used in industrial and automated environments., • Experience with semiconductor or automotive manufacturing environments and related equipment is beneficial., • Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings in support of installation and repair tasks., • Strong presentation skills to communicate technical information clearly to customers and internal stakeholders., • Comfort working with automated material handling systems (AMHS), automated equipment, and sustainability-focused maintenance environments that support automated material handling and semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing operations. You will work near moving mechanical parts and electrical systems and may occasionally work in high, precarious, or confined spaces. There is potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration, while the overall noise level is usually moderate. The position requires regular standing, walking, and frequent use of hands to handle tools, components, and controls. You will repeatedly climb up and down ladders and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access equipment. The role involves regularly lifting and moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. Visual demands include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
