Job DescriptionDescription: Lead Clinic Technician Department Eye Specialty Group is seeking a full-time Lead Clinic Technician to help make a difference. The Lead Clinic Technician is the team leader within the clinic who is responsible for overseeing their respective Doctors’ clinic, which includes, but is not limited to: scribing, chart review, exam room preparation and cleaning, as well as, satellite clinic preparation and follow-up procedures. This position documents the eye exam as dictated by the doctor, and documents patient follow-up treatment plans while providing exceptional level of patient care. The position facilitates patient flow and time management by effective communication with the Physician, Management, and entire team across the continuum of care. Must be flexible with hours and locations. Essential Skills/Responsibilities: • Reviews pre and post clinic medical charts for correct documentation, referral, correspondence, and pre-exam room testing requirements., • Develops a working knowledge of referring optometrists and physicians., • Documents charts during medical exam, including thorough knowledge and mastery of the EHR., • Ensures efficient patient flow and patient care is carried out in the manner specified by their doctor and practice policy. Ensures all assigned Technicians are aware of the Doctor’s requirements for patient screening, examination, and charting., • Serves as conduit for effective communication of doctors’ needs to Clinical Manager., • Serves as point-of-contact regarding doctors’ clinic to include, but not limited to, prescription calls, charting, patient forms, FMLA, etc., • Transports medical charts and necessary supplies for outreach and satellite clinics., • Distributes charts to appropriate staff for necessary follow-up upon return from outreach and satellite clinics., • Provides staff with MD clinic, satellite, surgery, and outreach clinic dates. Provides staff with doctor’s schedule at least one month in advance, being sure to note any days out of the clinic. Maintains updated schedules while communicating changes to all employees., • Scribes for Doctor in exam room, using Electronic Health Records program., • Assists with other clinics when assigned Doctor is not in clinic. (Limited desk-time to accomplish required tasks.), • Returns patient phone calls and call-in refills for prescription calls in a timely manner., • Knows and performs all responsibilities of the Clinic Technician position:, • Obtains and completes health history on all new patients; ensures that updated health history forms are completed annually for each patient., • Provides patients with explanation of tests to be performed during work-up., • Performs preliminary testing on patients including Argos, Pentacam, Immersion A-Scan, Contact A-Scan, B-Scan, Tonometry, visual acuity, automated visual fields, manual/automated lensometry, OPD. Endo cell count, Epic, OCT, automatic refraction, glare testing, EOM's, confrontational fields, Manual K’s, Goldman Applanation Tonometry, and fundus photography, color vision, pachymetry, fusion test, tear lab, inflamma dry, lipiscan, and pupil exam. Able to perform manifest refractions on pre-op and post-op patients as needed., • Ensures all Medical Necessity Forms are complete and accurate., • Scribes for Doctors in exam rooms using EHR., • Assists wheelchair patients in and out of chair. Must be able to help visually handicapped patients to work-up area., • Maintains positive appearance of work-up and exam rooms, which includes general cleaning; proper sterilization technique throughout the clinic and on surgical equipment and proper storage of equipment and autoclave., • Maintains medical instrument care and performs basic OR duties., • Assists with injections and other minor procedures., • Assists with early morning cataract clinic, as needed., • Opens and closes work-up and exam lanes; keeps all areas stocked with supplies including special forms. Adds needed supplies to Cleaning Check-Off Forms that is to be signed daily., • Assists in preparing cataract packets/laser packets, adds forms to charts., • Cross-trains and demonstrates competency in all clinics, including: Retina, Oculoplastics, Refractive, and Glaucoma., • Takes photos of patients and imports into charts as needed. Sends before-and-after communications to patients and referring doctors., • Labels, packages, orders, sends, and receives all Lab work and Pathology., • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR Certified., • Ensures quality measures: MIPS reporting is documented in the patient record., • Assists in training Clinic Technicians as needed., • Completes all compliance training requested by company and required by law., • Adheres to HIPAA compliance plan., • Communicates internally with all Physicians, Staff, and Patients., • Communicates externally with vendors, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, etc., • Travels to other clinics as needed. Education/Experience: Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR two to three years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience. COA or working towards certification, with attainment of COA required within 24-36 months of employment per the parameters in the policy.
