Ballinger is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to support in the creation of efficient complex structures that enable our projects to meet the high standards and goals of our clients. This position will report to the Chief Engineer, leading multiple project teams on technically complex projects and be required to work in conjunction with architects, contractors and other professionals and communicate their designs to appropriate parties. In addition, this position will is required to have outstanding analytical skills and be able to apply mathematical and scientific principles to solve complex problems. Position Responsibilities • Direct and perform project structural engineering: develop and oversee design and drafting/modeling structural scope, from schematics through construction documentation, • Maintain and embrace the high-quality standards of Ballinger Structural documentation, • Communicate and coordinate with all disciplines as required for the well-coordinated delivery of project documents, • Perform as structural construction administrator on projects for which you serve as project structural engineer, • Interact with the client on structural engineering project scope, • Mentor Structural Designers and Project Structural Engineers, • Possess and continue to develop expertise in Ballinger project types: technically complex building and renovation projects, • Directly assist the Chief Engineer as requested in quality assurance, project budgeting, peer reviews, and marketing, • Participate in a professional organization related to the field of structural engineering, • Participate in structural team staffing meetings and educational sessions, • Mentoring of staff both within your discipline and across disciplines on your specific area of expertise or engineering discipline, with the goal of increasing knowledge sharing and collaborating towards a comprehensive, coordinated set of project documents, • Interface and lead coordination with all disciplines during the design/coordination phases, • Interface with the client in design presentations related to their discipline of registration, • Direct and perform engineering on projects: maintain work plan and monitor progress of design, detailing, and drawing production throughout design phases to meet deadlines, • Write work plans and review weekly with all disciplines to confirm schedule is adhered to, • Produce basis of design reports, systems matrices, and preliminary design reports on projects the position is leading, • Produce specification sections and Statement of Special Inspections, and interface with specifications staff on projects they are assigned to, • Produce field site visit reports, • Develop knowledge of Ballingers project types (health care, academic/lab/research, corporate/workspace) through active engagement with project teams and leadership, • Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction, approximately 15% travel Technical/Professional Skills • Foundational knowledge of contractual and liability issues, • Foundational knowledge of construction administration processes and procedures, • High level of responsiveness and collaboration with contractors and clients, • Advanced client relation skills, • Advanced experience in contractual, liability, and construction administration issues, • Superior structural computer analysis skills (Bentley/RAM and STAAD/finite element software), • Superior organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills, • Superior professional engineering judgment, • Advanced professional judgment, • Proficient interpersonal skills and coordination efforts, • Produce basis of design reports, systems matrices, and preliminary design reports, • CAD & Revit proficiency, • Excel, Word, and analysis software proficiency, • Active role in drawing production, including but not limited to picking up redlines, quality assessment of individual work, coordination with other disciplines and coordination reviews and participation in team coordination meetings from SD through CA phases, • Thorough understanding of disciplines drawing and graphic standards, adherence to standards for quality and consistency in Ballingers product, • Strong interpersonal skills, specifically communication, dependability, responsibility, and teamwork, • Coordination skills, specifically communication, organization, time management, and adaptability Requirements • BS, BEng, or BAE degree in engineering relevant to the particular field of practice or equivalent as determined by the firm, • Post Graduate degree preferred, • 10+ years experience, • PE Registration Ballingers Approach:Our interdisciplinary teams collaborate on solutions that require a synthesis of disciplines.
