American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Montgomery, Alabama. • Specialty: Med Surg, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 10/27/2025, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 48 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in a hospital setting, requiring at least 18 months of recent Med/Surg experience and proficiency with Cerner or Epic EMR. • Work in a large hospital with multiple Med/Surg specialty units, including trauma surgical, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, and urology, • Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, CVA, TBI, neuro, oncology, ortho, urology, and general Med/Surg cases, • Unit assignments determined on the first day of orientation, • Typical patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit and shift, • Uses Cerner as the primary EMR, with Epic experience also considered, • Plum 360 IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing in use, • Floats required between like Med/Surg units and occasionally to ICU or ER for task support, • 12-hour day and night shifts (7a-7p, 7p-7a) with every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month required, • Telemetry monitored by techs, but RNs must interpret and confirm telemetry strips every 4 hours, • No on-call duties, • Responsibilities include assessment, prioritization, documentation, and escalation of care for a variety of complex patient populations, • RNs are required to perform telemetry interpretation and participate in regular strip reviews, • Support team includes CNAs (1:6 ratio), charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and unit receptionist, • Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit-based training for new or returning travelers after 1+ year absence, • First-time travelers are welcome with required experience, • Holiday coverage requires working one major and one minor holiday as assigned, • Scrub color is not restricted; any color may be worn, • Only candidates living outside a 60-mile radius are eligible, • Time off requests up to 7 days are allowed, excluding blackout dates, • Designated parking is available in the parking deck (levels 2-4), • Active AL or Compact RN license required, • At least 18 months of recent Med/Surg experience, • Minimum of 1 year trauma or surgical RN experience if assigned to surgical/trauma unit, • Experience with Cerner (preferred) or Epic EMR required, • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required, • Proficiency in wound care, chest tubes, IV skills, NGT, medication administration and documentation, • Telemetry interpretation experience required, • Must have experience with trach care, PEG tubes, foleys, and drains if assigned to relevant units, • Must not have worked as permanent staff within the previous 6 months, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy, • Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-611359.
