American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Montgomery, Alabama. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Med Surg, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 03/02/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Work in a hospital float pool across multiple Med/Surg units including trauma, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, urology, and clinical decision unit, • Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, trauma, CVA, TBI, orthopedic, spine, oncology, urology, and general medical, • Patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6, depending on unit, • Specialized procedures and equipment include wound care, chest tubes, trachs, PEG/NGT tubes, foley care, PCA pumps, and negative pressure wound dressings, • EMR system is Cerner (experience preferred), • Telemetry monitoring with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours, • Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors are used, • Shifts are 12 hours (day or night), starting at 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM, on a 4-week schedule cycle, • Floating required between like units and patient locations as needed, • Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or four weekend days per month, • No on-call responsibilities, • Nurses will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation but will float to other units as needed, • Support staff includes CNAs, a charge nurse, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry techs, • Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation, • Major and minor holiday coverage required per policy with one of each scheduled per assignment, • Certain blackout dates for requested time off apply throughout the year, • Scrubs of any color may be worn, • Parking is available in the facility deck on levels 2 through 4, • First-time travelers are eligible if minimum experience requirements are met\n \n Requirements\n, • Active AL or compact RN license required, • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required, • Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg RN experience required, • At least 1 year of trauma or surgical experience required for trauma/surgical unit assignments, • Chemo certification preferred for Med/Surg Oncology unit, • Ability to interpret and confirm telemetry strips every four hours required, • Experience with Cerner EMR preferred, • Perm staff must wait 6 months after last shift worked before being considered for a traveler position, • Candidates must reside at least 60 miles from the facility\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
