Job title: Lumber Director of Operations Salary: Starting at $123k to $145k Depending on experience + Profit Sharing and Performance Bonus Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm Location: Hillsboro, Oregon The primary duty of a Lumber Director of Operations is to interact regularly with General Managers, Assistant Managers, and other Directors serving as a leader,coach, mentor, and conduit of information ensuring the continuity of day-to-day operations for multiple locations within the organization. The Lumber Director of Operations is responsible for managing, directing, and implementing operational strategies and objectives to help ensure yard goals are achieved. In addition, the Lumber Director of Operations is responsible for helping to lead and grow the next level of leaders for PARR. The Lumber Director of Operations is also responsible for ensuring that PARR's Mission/Vision/Values remain a priority and focus of all daily yard operations. The Lumber Director of Operations regularly interacts with the Yard Managers and Assistant Managers in their region. These interactions are done with a combination of scheduled visits, phone calls, and virtual meetings. Duties and Responsibilities Safety • Creates a safe, positive, and comfortable work environment for all employees, • Ensures that all safety procedures and policies are being followed, • Ensures that all equipment is maintained to PARR standards, and repairs are done in a timely manner, • Ensuring facilities are well maintained, visually appealing, and being safely operated, • Lives the FACE values, • Ensures professional relationships are established and maintained with internal and external customers, • Encourages a team environment, • Remains calm, professional and confident under pressure, • Works with General Managers to set expectations and goals for employees and ensures they are being held accountable, • Ensures customer complaints and concerns are promptly and adequately addressed, • Effectively communicates with employees of all levels in their environment, • Seeks out, listens, and responds to input from employees and customers to ensure continuous improvement, • Is consistently engaged and vocal during Manager meetings, • Consistently encourages and promotes employee growth and career advancement, • Utilizes and supports the Parr University and training ecosystem, • Ensures employee evaluations are completed on time and remain current, • Maintains a supportive and encouraging approach, not a micro-manager, • Works to maintain strong retention at all locations, • Supports company attendance policy and ensures it is utilized as a development tool, • Ensures that employee issues are dealt with clearly, directly and in a timely manner, • Maintains a positive attitude, image, and delivery of "Discover the Difference" to peers, subordinates, customers, industry associates and the general public, • Always ensures PARR's brand standards are being maintained, • Works with other Directors, Regional Sales Managers, and General Managers to maintain a regional, "big picture" mindset, • Works with other Directors and leaders in the Company to continually monitor, evaluate, and when appropriate, encourage change in policy and procedures as it relates to yard operations, • Builds bridges and works well with all departments to help solve problems, • Demonstrates confidence and carries self as a leader of the organization, • Is consistently visible to all levels of the company: speaks up, and is a voice towards problem solving, • Assists with identifying and responding the need for staffing changes at yards, and ensuring that proper capacity is maintained in relation to sales volume, • Works with General Manager to achieve budgeted bottom line, consistently and demonstrably strives for financial improvement, • Coaches and delegates financial reporting, striving to build business acumen with team, • Utilizes Company's Key Metrics to impact the bottom line (OT, Health Index, etc.), • Ensures that company goals, plans and initiatives are followed and met, • Communicates and shares On-Time/In-Full metrics, striving for continuous improvement, • Uses Budget to Actual as a tool in the decision-making process and shares that with team leaders, to create improvement plans, • Consistently seeks and identifies details and processes that lead to positive change, • Shares knowledge and experience with team, striving for consistent financially-minded behavior, • Proven track record as a Manager (PARR preferred, not required), • 2 years of prior supervisory or management experience, • High school diploma or GED, • Ability to speak, write, and read English required, • Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job, • Knowledge and proficient with management principles, practices, and protocols, • Understands the effects of lumber industry market conditions, and able work with Managers to navigate thru challenges resulting from these conditions, • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, • Class C driver's license, • Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment. Is approachable and humble., • Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types. Must maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all information related to company finances and records, particularly, cost of goods purchased and sold., • Ability and willingness to identify processes, tools and/or procedures that may be improved upon to improve the workplace and outcomes for our customers., • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and employees at a high skill level and speak effectively in front of groups. Communication can include, but is not limited to: in-person (verbal and non-verbal), written, e-mail, telephone, and public speaking to medium size groups., • Strong focus, planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities, handle multiple projects, and do what is necessary to meet deadlines, while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy., • Ability to function independently, as part of a team, and as a leader within your own sales cohort with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence., • Ability to think and respond quickly, positively, and professionally to constantly changing circumstances. The working conditions for this position are a combination of inside/office, outside/yard, travelling to other locations, with some overnight travel possible. Must have the ability to work independently, as well as within a team environment. Physical Requirements • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, • Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day, • Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard, • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet, • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, • Must be able to drive a vehicle when necessary General Managers We know that without great people, we can't be a great company.
