We are looking for a business-minded leader to help strengthen daily club leadership and continue to grow our Fitness and Programming departments. The Assistant General Manager/Director of Fitness & Programming role works closely with ownership and two other AGMs, the Director of Facilities, and the Director of Member Services. This leader oversees growth in fitness, group exercise, and additional programming teams. Responsibilities include staff training and accountability, member experience, revenue budgets, expense management, KPI reporting, payroll accuracy, and operations. To be considered, applicants must understand the fitness industry, enjoy being visible on the floor, and know how to lead people with professionalism, warmth, structure, and follow-through. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can coach employees, improve systems, address tough issues calmly, and help grow member-facing programs in an independent athletic club environment. Compensation: $75,500 - $92,000+ DOE and performance Responsibilities: • Oversee the Fitness and Programming departments, including Fitness Training, Group Exercise, Aquatics/Rockwall programming, and other assigned program areas., • Work with supervisors/department managers to hire, train, coach, manage, and evaluate a strong team of certified Personal Trainers, class instructors, and other key programming employees., • Recommend improvements that strengthen profitability by analyzing department performance, reviewing trends, identifying problem areas, and proposing practical solutions., • Collaborate with the General Manager, ownership, and department leaders on annual budget development for Programming departments and the company as a whole., • Measure department performance against approved budgets, revenue goals, labor targets, and other key performance indicators., • Recommend adaptations to personnel, scheduling, programming, pricing, promotions, or department systems based on actual results., • Ensure applicable laws, regulations, safety expectations, certification requirements, company policies, and HFAC standards are followed throughout assigned departments., • Strengthen Fitness Training as an immediate priority, including trainer productivity, new member fitness engagement, client retention, sales follow-up, and team accountability., • Improve department communication through regular staff meetings, one-on-one coaching, written updates, reporting, and follow-through., • Maintain accurate schedules, payroll review, department records, certifications, performance documentation, and member-facing program information., • Provide visible leadership in fitness and programming areas by walking the floor, observing staff and member experience, addressing concerns, and reinforcing standards in real time. Includes evening and weekend worktime., • Partner with the AGM/Director of Facilities and AGM/Director of Member Services to ensure programming areas are safe, clean, well-staffed, service-focused, and aligned with overall Club operations., • Serve as a member of HFAC’s Manager on Duty team, including opening, closing, responding to incidents, supporting staff, and enforcing policies with members, guests, and employees., • Handle member and employee concerns calmly, professionally, and in alignment with HFAC policies and chain of command., • Develop future programming business opportunities, such as small-group training, clinics, youth athlete programs, seasonal offerings, and other member-facing services, once core department systems are stabilized. Qualifications: • A proven record with 3+ years of experience managing a team, preferably in a fitness setting, is required. This includes hiring, performance management, terminations, payroll, and full HR responsibilities., • 2+ years of experience working in the fitness industry., • Proven customer service experience as a manager; strong guest-focused mentality., • Have superb written, business, and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills., • This position requires a bachelor's degree, with preferences given to those with a position-relevant degree.
