Job Description THE YMCA OF METROPOLITAN LOS ANGELES VICE PRESIDENT, YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS ABOUT YMCA OF METROPOLITAN LOS ANGELES The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) is seeking a cause-driven youth development professional to lead, manage, and oversee our youth development department in the areas of youth sports, teen programming, parent-child, school-based physical education programs, child activity center, youth enrichment and other youth-based program operations, county-wide throughout the YMCA. The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) currently operates a large portfolio of youth and family programs, including, but not limited to: Youth Sports Leagues (Jr. Clippers basketball, LA Kings ball hockey/NHL Street, LA Dodgers Dreamteam baseball and softball, soccer, futsal, volleyball, flag football/NFL Flag, etc.), Youth and Government (Model UN and MLC), Early Learning Readiness, Adventure Guides, PE PLAY (at over 100 schools), child activity centers at certain YMCA locations, and youth enrichment classes. POSITION OVERVIEW The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking an exceptional leader to drive transformational impact in youth and family development. Working alongside our operations executive leadership team, this role will expand the Y's reach and effectiveness through strategic vision and meaningful partnerships. Aligned with the Y's Center for Community Well-Being strategy framework, the Vice President of Youth Development Operations will play a pivotal role in implementing our comprehensive cradle-to-community well-being youth development strategy, designed to build pathways to success for every child in Los Angeles through innovative programs, essential services, impactful initiatives, and dedicated advocacy efforts. This leadership position oversees a substantial annual operating budget exceeding $9 million and reports directly to the Chief Program Officer. The role includes direct supervision of seven key leaders and collectively manages more than 150 youth development directors, coordinators, and direct-service staff, along with numerous volunteers and interns. As a vital member of the Y's youth development strategy leadership team, this position will collaborate with executive staff who lead School-Age Child Care, Expanded Learning, preschool programs, and other youth-focused initiatives. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Attend staff meetings and training as required. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility, in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff. Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth. Strategic Operations • Lead the YMCA's comprehensive Youth Development department, including parent-child programs, youth enrichment, teen leadership, youth sports, and physical education initiatives, • Develop and implement innovative strategies to ensure program sustainability and achieve enrollment goals outlined in the Y's annual operating plan, • Oversee quality control and curriculum development while creating nurturing, youth-centered environments that promote volunteer and family engagement, • Distribute ongoing program evaluations and surveys to maintain high-quality standards and ensure outcomes align with community needs and strategic objectives, • Ensure regular program site visits and comprehensive staff evaluations, developing corrective action plans when necessary, • Develop recruitment and hiring strategies while providing direct supervision to ensure all staff meet qualification, certification, and performance standards, • Plan and execute monthly department meetings and staff training sessions to maintain program excellence, • Design and facilitate professional development opportunities through workshops, conferences, youth development summits, and regional events for staff and volunteersCommunity Engagement, • Create meaningful opportunities for community participation through events, initiatives, and activities that strengthen Y engagement, • Identify, recruit, and track program volunteers to support youth development objectives, • Establish and maintain systems ensuring program compliance with risk management and safety protocols through regular documented inspections, • Review incident reports, conduct evaluations, and implement appropriate safety measures and corrective actions, • Maintain current certification records for all staff and ensure accurate, up-to-date job descriptions and performance standards, • Collaborate with departments and centers to advance the Y's Get Summer teen initiative and work with California YMCA Youth & Government to support program growth, • Ensure all exempt program sites meet Y standards and maintain fully qualified directors through strategic recruitmentFiscal Management, • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, achieve financial goals, complete monthly forecasting, and monitor budgets with variance analysis, • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure appropriate management of third-party funding and prepare required reports and documentation, • Oversee department spending and obtain necessary authorizations in accordance with organizational policies, • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in academic preparation and/or experience., • Related Experience: Experience managing and operating a large portfolio of programs. Minimum of four (4) years of experience managing high-level youth development or executive-level community-based programs, including experience supervising supervisors and staff., • Licenses & Certification: YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification preferred., • Other: Knowledge of program planning, implementation, and management; staff supervision, budgeting/fiscal management. Experience in community development, partnerships, and relations. Experience working with school personnel and school leadership. The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 per year. This is not a remote position. The position will be based out of a YMCA in Los Angeles County (work location is flexible based on the availability of office space at local YMCA's).
