About the Role: The Construction Assistant or Operator with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) plays a vital role in supporting construction projects by ensuring the efficient transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel to and from job sites. This position requires a combination of hands-on construction support and skilled driving to facilitate smooth project operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with construction teams to assist in various tasks, including site preparation, equipment handling, and material management. By maintaining safety standards and adhering to project timelines, the Construction Assistant helps to minimize delays and optimize workflow. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the successful completion of construction projects by providing reliable logistical and operational support. This position requires extensive and travel and for you to be gone multiple weeks at a time (daily per diem and hotel lodging provided when traveling). Minimum Qualifications: • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record., • Experience operating commercial vehicles in a construction or similar environment., • Basic knowledge of construction site safety practices and protocols., • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions., • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately., • Previous experience as a construction assistant, equipment operator, or laborer., • Familiarity with construction equipment and tools., • Certification in OSHA safety standards or similar safety training., • Ability to operate additional construction machinery or equipment., • Basic mechanical skills for minor vehicle and equipment maintenance., • Operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently to transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to designated job sites., • Assist construction crews with loading and unloading materials, setting up equipment, and performing general labor tasks as needed., • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational readiness., • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to vehicle operation and construction site activities., • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate deliveries, schedules, and on-site support tasks., • Adhere and promote company SAFETY measures at all times, • Load and unload equipment and materials, • Prepare construction site and clean up when job is completed, • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, tampers, and rakes, • SAFELY drive trucks and pull trailers with equipment and materials to construction sites, • Perform routine/preventative maintenance and inspection on equipment, • Help clean and organize trucks and warehouse areas, • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces, such as trenches, pits, and manholes, • Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds regularly, • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps and ladders regularly, • Sitting, standing, walking, or driving for long periods of time (1-3 hours), • Must be able to see, hear, and respond quickly to dangerous situations, • Primarily working outdoors, including extreme weather conditions, • Working around moving machinery, vehicles, and heavy equipment The required skills, such as operating commercial vehicles and understanding construction safety protocols, are essential for daily transportation and logistical support tasks. Effective communication skills enable the Construction Assistant to coordinate with team members and supervisors, ensuring timely deliveries and smooth site operations. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are frequently utilized when assisting with loading, unloading, and general labor duties on-site. Preferred skills like familiarity with construction equipment and safety certifications enhance the ability to contribute more broadly to project needs and maintain a safe working environment. Additionally, mechanical aptitude supports routine vehicle inspections and minor maintenance, helping to prevent delays caused by equipment issues. Any compensation range provided for a role is an estimate determined by available market data. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the range provided considering each candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
