Job Description Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing (DISH) San Francisco, CA Important: Due to the nature of the work, all employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. About the Role Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing (DISH) is seeking a Janitor to maintain the cleanliness and safety of one or more DISH properties located in San Francisco. This position ensures a high standard of cleanliness, customer service, and a hazard-free environment while adhering to DISH policies and best practices. Janitors may be assigned to one of two primary functions: • Completing individual tenant unit turnovers with the Turnover Team This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to either the Janitorial Supervisor or Unit Turn Supervisor, depending on deployment. Employees typically work 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday. Overtime must be pre-approved by management. Learn more at dishsf.org Our Values • Demonstrate excellence in our work and interactions, • Stay focused on what matters most, • Under-promise and over-deliver, • Use initiative and innovation, • Be fair and consistent, • Be mindful and prudent with resources, • Be respectful and hopeful with tenants and coworkers, • Be open to discussion, different opinions, and calculated risks DISH Service Commitments • Warm greetings and interactions whenever possible, • Professional appearance every day, • Service through helping, • Be present and respectful at all times, • Stay calm in the eye of the storm, • Strive to maintain the best environment to live and work in Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Clean and maintain common areas including bathrooms, elevators, entryways, kitchens, conference rooms, community rooms, hallways, staff offices, sidewalks, and gardens, • Mop, vacuum, scrub, and empty trash to keep buildings clean and presentable, • Report maintenance issues, pest evidence, and other concerns to supervisors, • Complete work orders for residents and management accurately and in a timely manner, • Clean up after work completion, • Follow building policies and emergency procedures, • Conduct site walkthroughs to monitor property condition, • Report unusual activity or building damage immediately, • Maintain safety practices for staff, tenants, and visitors, • Follow all job safety policies and procedures, • Collaborate with janitorial and maintenance staff across DISH sites, • Attend staff meetings and trainings, • Clean and repair units during turnover, • Clear units for turnover including TSP application, paint preparation, and touch-up painting, • Assemble furniture for units, • Assist with furnishing units for new tenants, • Provide on-call or emergency janitorial services when required, • Set up rooms for staff trainings or volunteer events when needed Other Duties and Responsibilities • Clear clogs in sinks and toilets using appropriate hand tools, • Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies and tools, • Keep site basements clean and organized, • Perform key-making for unit and mailbox keys, • Perform other related duties as assigned Education and Experience • 1+ year of janitorial experience required (professional training may substitute for experience), • 1+ year customer service or client relations experience preferred, • 1+ year working in a team environment required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Commitment to DISH Mission, Values, and Service Commitments, • Ability to create a welcoming environment for residents, visitors, vendors, and coworkers, • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance use issues, and histories of homelessness, • Ability to work collaboratively and follow supervisory direction, • Basic English reading and writing skills required (Spanish a plus), • Basic math skills and ability to complete forms accurately, • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment, • Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations, • Professional appearance and adherence to DISH uniform policy Physical Requirements • Frequently push or pull objects weighing 100+ lbs, • Lift and carry objects 50–100 lbs, • Use hand tools and janitorial equipment, • Walk, stand, squat, and work in physically demanding positions, • Operate power tools and cleaning machinery, • Travel between DISH sites using public transportation Compensation & Benefits • Full-time, non-exempt position, • Schedule: Monday–Friday, • Medical, • Dental, • Vision, • Paid holidays, • Vacation, • Sick leave, • Retirement plan Equal Employment Opportunity DISH is an equal opportunity employer.
