Job Description Robert Half is seeking a Technical Writer located in the northern part of Greater Seattle for a hybrid role. This is a contract-based position where you will be responsible for updating existing business SOPs and documents, as well as creating new documentation to support various departments within the company. This position works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), such as engineers or service professionals, to create content that helps users, clients, or internal staff understand a product, service, or process. Documentation will include manuals and instructions for both internal and external audiences. Responsibilities • Create and maintain documentation: Write and update a variety of technical documents, including user manuals, how-to guides, and installation guides., • Research and gather information: Interview and collaborate with SMEs and product managers, including external SMEs, to understand technical concepts and product specifications., • Determine user needs: Analyze the target audience and their level of technical knowledge to tailor content appropriately., • Simplify complex information: Translate technical jargon into clear, easy-to-understand language for non-technical audiences., • Format and organize content: Structure information logically using appropriate content types to improve readability and user experience., • Ensure consistency: Adhere to and maintain an in-house style guide for consistency across all documentation., • Incorporate visual aids: Use illustrations, diagrams, screenshots, and graphs to enhance understanding., • Review and edit: Proofread and edit your own work as well as documentation from other team members for accuracy, clarity, and grammatical correctness., • Manage documentation platforms: Work with various tools and content management systems (CMS) to manage the documentation lifecycle., • Monitor and collect feedback: Gather and analyze user feedback to continuously improve and update existing content., • Excellent writing and editing skills: Strong command of grammar, style, and the ability to write for different audiences., • Strong research skills: The ability to quickly learn and comprehend complex technologies., • Technical aptitude: Familiarity with or the ability to understand technical concepts and subjects, such as software, engineering, or medical processes., • Collaboration and communication: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, developers, and designers., • Attention to detail: Meticulous focus on accuracy and consistency in all documentation., • Portfolio of work: A collection of writing samples demonstrating the ability to create clear and concise technical documentation., • Content Creation: Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign and Excel.
