Job DescriptionSalary: $21/hour SPCA Westchester is excited to welcome a caring and motivated Animal Care and Kennel Supervisor to our talented team! The Animal Care and Kennel Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring every animal in our shelter receives exceptional daily care, enrichment, and support. This position leads our wonderful kennel team, overseeing daily operations, and maintaining a clean, safe, and compassionate environment. A core focus of this role is elevating the quality of care through leadership, consistent routines, and a deep understanding of canine behavior and needs. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that requires effective communication, organization and teamwork. The Supervisor works closely with staff across departments to ensure animals receive proper feeding, medication, enrichment, and medical or behavioral support each day. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a commitment to high standards of care and a passion for helping animals thrive. Experience in animal sheltering, staff supervision, or kennel operations is highly valued. Responsibilities • Supervise daily kennel operations to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all animals, with emphasis on canine care., • Assign daily duties and cleaning schedules for Animal Care Specialists., • Create and manage staff schedules; adjust for absences and operational needs., • Maintain and update kennel SOPs; ensure consistent, high-quality care and cleanliness., • Serve as a liaison between kennel staff and medical, behavior, and adoption teams., • Oversee cleaning, maintenance, and organization of all indoor and outdoor kennel areas., • Administer and oversee diets and medications, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation., • Assist with canine and feline adoptions, offering behavioral insights and facilitating dog-to-dog introductions., • Clean kennels and walk dogs regularly to promote physical and behavioral wellness., • Interview and train new ACS team members on safe animal handling, medication protocols, and cleaning procedures., • Support staff development through effective coaching and performance reviews., • Oversee inventory of animal care and cleaning supplies., • Maintain cleanliness of transport vehicles following transfers, events, and field trips., • Support emergency response and after-hours care, when needed. Requirements • Experience in animal sheltering, kennel operations, or related field preferred., • Leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred., • Ability to handle strong dogs safely, including those with behavioral or medical needs., • Comfortable performing physical tasks including lifting, walking dogs, and cleaning., • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive approach., • Skilled at leading by example, setting a positive tone, modeling professionalism and contributing to a healthy team culture. Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 8-4 pm.
