Le Monde is looking for a Deputy Head of Audience Engagement. As France’s leading daily newspaper, Le Monde is committed to providing rigorous insight into current affairs and fostering public debate. In this newly created role, you’ll be part of Le Monde’s digital transformation, leveraging and sharing data across the newsroom to strengthen content performance and drive audience impact. Key responsibilities As Deputy Head of Audience Engagement, you will be reporting to the Audience Department and working closely with the editorial leadership. You will be responsible for driving an ambitious data-driven digital strategy, by implementing these key tasks: • Lead regular meetings with the newsroom to share analyses, debriefs, and projections, and co-develop insights on performance metrics., • Identify levers for short-, medium- and long-term editorial performance., • Help the newsroom teams optimize content reach and value., • Monitor and track audience, subscription and retention goals through detailed KPI management, in co-ordination with the editorial team., • Prepare daily audience debriefs for the newsroom., • Produce and share daily reports and syntheses on the effectiveness of editorial exposure, for the newsroom editors, digital department heads, and executive board., • Work with the Audience Engagement team to gather, guide, and build analytical data necessary for content performance management, in collaboration with SEO, new formats, research, and mobile app experts., • Provide fast and regular recommendations to the editorial leadership team, in liaison with the SEO lead, for breaking news., • Develop recommendations to sustain audience levels during periods of low news flow., • Enhance and evolve key performance indicators and dashboards to continually improve content effectiveness., • Collaborate with product, data, UX design, technology, marketing, and subscription teams to maximize content impact across all channels. Key skills : • Fluent French., • Advanced degree in statistics and/or mathematics and/or marketing., • At least 10 years of proven experience in data analysis for public service-oriented industries – ideally in newsrooms or digital teams within media companies., • Experience leading audience development strategies and optimizing content formats., • Strong knowledge of analytics tools (Piano, Chartbeat, etc.) – skills in SQL, Python, or data visualization are a plus., • Ability to build narratives around data, convince stakeholders, prioritize effectively, and rally teams around common goals., • Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders (editorial, audience, product, subscription) and reconciling conflicting interests., • Deep understanding of Le Monde and its journalism, the challenges of information, media business models, and the various content formats (text, video, audio, newsletters, etc.)., • Excellent grasp of editorial logic and a strong affinity for content production., • Diplomatic, assertive, and persistent personality. You know how to advance projects while maintaining constructive relationships with demanding stakeholders., • Confident public speaking skills, for regular presentations., • Rigorous, committed, and keen to contribute to high-quality journalism for diverse audiences.
