Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer Sector: Fresh Produce / Food Manufacturing Location: Birmingham Employment Type: Permanent Salary: Competitive (DOE) Hours: Monday to Friday | Rotating Shift 6am - 2pm / 2pm - 10pm (37.5 hours per week) ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established fresh produce manufacturing business in Birmingham. This is a hands-on maintenance role within a busy, highly automated production environment. You will be working as part of an established engineering team, supporting production across 33 lines and helping to keep equipment, plant and site services running effectively. Role SnapshotMonday to Friday rotating shift pattern6am to 2pm / 2pm to 10pmEstablished engineering teamBusy fresh produce manufacturing siteHighly automated production environment with 33 production linesOngoing investment in automation and site equipmentLong-term opportunity with training and progression availableThe RoleAs Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will support day-to-day engineering activity across the site, covering reactive breakdowns, planned maintenance, fault finding and continuous improvement work. You will be involved in maintaining automated production and packaging machinery, as well as supporting wider site services where required. Key responsibilities will includeCarrying out reactive breakdown repairs to reduce downtimeCompleting planned preventative maintenance schedules in line with site TPM systemsDiagnosing and repairing faults across electrical and mechanical systemsMaintaining and repairing automated production and packaging equipmentWorking with PLCs, inverter drives, HMIs and electrical control circuitsMaintaining accurate maintenance records and documentationSupporting building services including refrigeration, air handling and fire safety systemsAssisting with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activityEnsuring all work is carried out in line with health & safety and environmental standardsThe successful candidate will ideally haveExperience working as a Maintenance Engineer in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentFood manufacturing, fresh produce or similar FMCG experience would be advantageousStrong electrical fault-finding skills on automated production equipmentExperience working with PLCs, inverter drives, HMIs and control systemsAbility to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematicsGood mechanical maintenance skills, including motors, gearboxes and general mechanical repairsExperience working with PPM schedules and maintenance management systemsA practical, hands-on approach to engineering support within a production environmentQualificationsRelevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experienceHNC level qualification or equivalent would be advantageous18th Edition preferred, although candidates with 17th Edition and relevant experience may still be consideredDesirable: MEWP, FLT, IOSH/NEBOSH or Food Safety certificationsBenefitsPension scheme - 3% employer / 5% employee contribution20 days holiday plus Bank HolidaysOnsite parkingStable, long-term opportunity within a growing manufacturing businessOngoing training and development within the engineering teamOpportunity to work within a well-invested, automated production environmentPlease note: this client does not offer visa sponsorship.
