Job Title: Construction Lawyer (Interim) Location: Birmingham (1–2 days per week in the office) Start Date: ASAP Duration: 3–6 months Overview A leading organisation operating in the energy and utilities sector is seeking an experienced Construction Lawyer to join its in-house legal function on an interim basis. The role will focus on supporting a portfolio of infrastructure and renewable energy projects, providing commercially focused advice across the full project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities • Provide strategic legal support on construction and engineering matters across a range of infrastructure and low-carbon energy projects., • Advise on the development and delivery of renewable and energy infrastructure schemes, including solar PV installations, wind projects, heat pump systems and district heating networks., • Draft, review and negotiate construction documentation, including building contracts, EPC agreements, professional appointments, framework agreements and collateral warranties., • Support procurement processes and advise on contract strategy, risk allocation and supply chain arrangements., • Manage and advise on contract administration issues, variations, delay and disruption claims, extensions of time, and dispute avoidance/resolution., • Work closely with project managers, procurement teams and senior stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered in line with legal and commercial objectives., • Liaise with external counsel where required and oversee any contentious construction matters. Candidate Profile • Qualified solicitor with significant experience in construction law, ideally within infrastructure, energy, utilities or large-scale development projects., • Strong working knowledge of standard form contracts (e.g. JCT, NEC) and experience negotiating bespoke EPC and engineering agreements., • Demonstrable experience advising on complex, high-value projects and managing contractual risk., • Confident operating in a fast-paced in-house environment with the ability to provide practical, solutions-driven advice., • Available to start at short notice for a 3–6 month interim assignment.
