Consultant Psychiatrist - Early Intervention The closing date is 26 March 2026 We are looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join the team the Early Intervention Team based in Worcester. This is a part time post working 4 days per week/8 sessions. Worcestershire is a mixed rural and urban county ofover 500 square miles and around million population. It covers the City of Worcester together with the towns of Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley, Tenbury Wells, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Droitwich, Evesham, Pershore, Malvern and Uptonupon Severn. Herefordshire & Worcestershire offer excellent living and working prospects. Nearby are the Wye Valley, an Area ofOutstanding Natural Beauty; the Forest of Dean; the Malvern Hills; and the Brecon Beacons National Park; with easy access to the M5 and M50. The Early Intervention Service works in a way which facilitates engagement of patients and their families to minimise the stigma of psychosis and enable recovery. Much of the work takes place outside secondary mental health services bases so that the traditional model of providing outpatient follow up has been replaced by a more flexible patient centred approach which allows for reviews to take place at home which often facilitates the involvement of the family. Main duties of the job The team accepts referrals for patients aged 18 -65 experiencing a first episode of psychosis, with whom they will work for up to 3 years depending on clinical need. The team is also commissioned to work with young people who are assessed as having an at risk mental state which includes attenuated psychotic symptoms, blips and individuals who are at high risk as a result of having a family history of psychosis and have experienced a deterioration in functioning. The Trust's 4 Mental Health inpatient wards GP practices based in Worcester, Evesham, Malvern and Pershore Three of the Worcestershire Neighbourhood MH Teams (Malvern, Evesham and Worcester City) The South Home Treatment Team. Care co-ordinator caseloads are generally limited to 15 cases, allowing the team to deliver a range of psychosocial interventions, including Early Warning Signs Work, Behavioural Family Therapy, Anxiety Management, and to run therapeutic groups. Case managers also work with parents and carers to both offer support and provide information. The team is working to deliver access to EI services within 2 weeks of referral for at least 60% of referrals; the team is currently meeting this ambitious target. There is a weekly team meeting where new referrals are discussed together with cases of concern, there are in addition regular formulation meetings which also act as team supervision allowing for team reflection about difficult cases. Person Specification Knowledge The candidate should have relevant clinical experience Knowledge of appropriate medical, pharmacological and psychological treatments in the General Adult Psychiatry Knowledge about the NHS and understanding the evidence base underpinning the delivery of high quality services Understanding of the importance of excellent team working relationships and ability to put this into practice. Skills & Abilities Ability to recognise own limitations and seek advice when necessary. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary fashion with teams and other disciplines. Ability to work across teams and disciplinary boundaries in a collaborative style Experience and interest in providing training and teaching for a variety of staff groups. An interest to participate in ongoing research projects, especially putting research into practice. Qualifications Full Registration with the General Medical Council (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment).
