As part of the transition to a Group Clinical Services structure within Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, there is an increased expectation of cross-site working. Although roles will have a designated base, post holders are likely to be required to work across multiple Trust sites in line with service needs. Where this is not included in the initial job plan, any future requirement arising from the departmental restructures will be addressed through the job planning process. Travel time will be taken into consideration in line with contractual expectations. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in breast and hepatobiliary cancers. The post is for a permanent (10 PA) Clinical Oncologist. The successful candidate will join established multidisciplinary teams within a supportive and collaborative environment, with opportunities to contribute to service development, teaching, and research within a highly regarded oncology service. BHOC is one of the UK's leading comprehensive cancer centres, providing high-quality, patient-centred care across the South West. The centre brings together a wide range of specialist services including radiotherapy, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, systemic anti-cancer therapies, haematology, palliative care, clinical psychology, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and adolescent and young adult cancer services. Please see the attached job description and person specification for further details of this position • Full GMC registration, • MRCP or equivalent, • FRCR or equivalent, • Entry on the Specialist Register (or expected within 12 months ), • MD or PhD, • Broad oncology background with specific skills as required in the agreed job description, • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion across a wide range of oncological situations both elective and emergency., • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients and be able to work in a multidisciplinary team., • Specialist experience in Breast and HPB cancers, • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty, • Commitment to continuing medical education., • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty skills in oncology., • IT Skills, • Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance, with particular reference to the speciality., • Experience in organising audit., • Ability to organise efficient and smooth running specialist service., • Ability to organise and prioritise workload., • Knowledge of the ethics, principles and practice of clinical research and proven participation in clinical research., • GCP training., • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems., • Publications in peer reviewed journals, • Ability to increase the academic profile of the Directorate., • Experience in implementing, developing and evaluating undergraduate and/or postgraduate training., • Interest in clinical research and experience in supervising undergraduate +/- postgraduate research projects, • Experience and interest in teaching of staff, both undergraduate and postgraduate and from all disciplines, • Experience of supervising trainees., • Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team., • Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it., • Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service, • Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant., • Ability to practice independently as a consultant., • Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership., • Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks., • Demonstration of knowledge of NHS management structures, • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues., • Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English., • Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries., • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-professional basis with all levels of staff both within and across divisions., • Ability to be a flexible team member., • Enquiring and critical approach to work, • Ability to access places of work easily, • Evidence of entitlement to live and work in the UK., • A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
