Everyone deserves the opportunity to heal and thrive – but for those navigating mental health challenges, substance misuse, and the criminal justice system, that opportunity can feel impossibly far away. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for a compassionate, community-focused Recovery and Support Practitioner to walk alongside people facing some of life’s most complex challenges. You’ll play a vital role in helping individuals stabilise, rebuild, and begin to move forward with confidence and dignity. (But we’re just the recruitment partner – so let us tell you about the inspiring organisation behind the role!) Founded in Hackney, London, in 2019, Support When It Matters (SWIM) Enterprise CIC is a social enterprise with a mission: to improve the life chances of African, Caribbean, and Dual Heritage communities in London. SWIM specialises in culturally competent, trauma-informed support for people impacted by systemic inequality – including those experiencing mental ill-health, substance misuse, homelessness, and involvement in the criminal justice system. SWIM doesn’t just deliver services – they build trust, create space for healing, and empower people to make lasting change. As a Recovery and Support Practitioner, you’ll hold a caseload of individuals who are ready to take their next steps – and you’ll be the steady, supportive presence helping them get there. This is a full-time, permanent role based on-site in Hackney, East London. The starting salary is £27,000, with additional opportunities for training and development. What you’ll be doing (as a snapshot!): • Direct 1:1 & Group Support: Deliver person-centred support to individuals with complex needs – including those with personality disorders, substance misuse histories, and/or criminal justice involvement. This includes both structured 1:1 sessions and group-based psychosocial interventions., • Wraparound Support & Signposting: Link clients with services such as mental health providers, legal support, welfare advice, and housing teams – building a network of support that extends beyond your sessions., • Multi-agency Working: Collaborate with the police, probation services, health professionals, and community organisations to ensure continuity of care and support., • Safeguarding & Risk Management: Attend professional meetings (e.g. MAPPA, MARAC), contribute to risk assessments and safety plans, and escalate concerns as needed., • Data & Impact: Maintain accurate records, input case data, and contribute to reporting that ensures accountability to commissioners and – more importantly – to the people we support., • Reflective Practice: Take part in regular team meetings, supervision, and reflective practice to continuously develop your skills, understanding, and effectiveness. You’ll thrive in this role if you bring: • Experience working with people who have committed offences, and a good understanding of the criminal justice system., • Confidence in delivering both 1:1 and group-based support for individuals with complex psychosocial needs., • A commitment to equity, anti-oppressive practice, and cultural understanding – especially when supporting African, Caribbean, and other minoritised communities., • The ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and agencies, while also managing a varied caseload., • Strong communication skills – written, verbal, and digital – including the ability to document work respectfully and effectively. SWIM has just celebrated its 5-year anniversary and is still growing – with the energy, adaptability, and purpose you’d expect from a young but impactful social enterprise. If you’re values-led, systems-aware, and ready to play a key role in transforming lives through housing – we’d love to hear from you.
