About the Role As a Workshop Technician, you’ll work on one of the most diverse and interesting fleets in the region. No two days are the same — and your technical skill will directly support emergency services and essential council operations. Your day, week, and month could include: • Servicing and repairing HGV, LGV and passenger cars, including statutory inspections., • Inspecting, servicing and repairs of specialist fleet equipment., • Diagnostic investigations across light and heavy fleet & equipment., • Mobile maintenance, travelling across the county to keep GCC and GFRS vehicles roadworthy., • Working on fire appliances, pumps, boats, and specialist rescue equipment., • Servicing portable power units, lighting rigs and hydraulic/pneumatic systems., • Training on equipment used across the GCC/GFRS fleet., • Supporting equipment readiness for front ‑ line fire appliances., • Fabrication, engineering, vehicle conversions, and occasional roadside recovery (full training provided to a national standard)., • Collection and delivery of vehicles as required., • Attending and delivering technical training to the wider team., • You will be reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, Workshops Manager & GFRS Control when on-call. About You We are looking for a proactive, skilled, and adaptable Technician who can work under their own initiative and who enjoys a varied workload. You’ll bring: • Strong diagnostic, service and repair experience., • The ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively., • Flexibility and a methodical approach., • Excellent communication and teamwork., • Experience working within a busy workshop (desirable). You’ll also need to support our 24/365 call ‑ out cover for GFRS, taking part in our standby rota. Standby currently operates two weeks in every five, with paid standby allowances and opportunities for overtime above your basic pay.
