Senior Information Governance Officer Location: Medway Contract: Temporary – 6 months Rate: Up to £40.50 per hour Start Date: ASAP (subject to checks) About the Role: Our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Information Governance Officer to join their Business Support function within Legal and Governance on a six‑month temporary basis. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with information law, including the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, and PECR. This is a senior, specialist role focused on the development and delivery of the Information Governance strategy, providing expert advice, oversight, and assurance across data protection, records management, privacy, and information security. The post offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office‑based and remote working. Key Responsibilities: • Provide high‑quality Information Governance and Data Protection advice across the organisation, including shared service arrangements., • Deputise for the Head of Information Governance / Data Protection Officer as required., • Lead Information Governance assessments, strategies, roadmaps, and programme design to embed privacy by design and default., • Advise and support the maintenance of accurate Records of Processing Activities across service areas., • Develop standards, processes, and best‑practice guidance aligned to evolving legislation., • Support internal audits relating to information and data protection compliance., • Promote accountability for key data assets and support Information Asset Owners and data protection champions., • Manage high‑risk Data Protection Impact Assessments and associated risk mitigation., • Handle a personal caseload of complex IG matters including complaints, incidents, and data breaches. Skills & Experience Required: • Extensive experience working within a public authority information governance function., • In‑depth knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, FOI and EIR., • Experience managing complex complaints, breaches, and high‑risk DPIAs., • Strong advisory, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills., • Degree‑level qualification in law, data protection, or equivalent (FOI or records management practitioner qualifications desirable)., • Confident working independently and at senior level within a hybrid environment.
